im in the same boat as everyone else, happy for the club to get more revenue but pessimistic about their designs, have these been confirmed yet? black on an arsenal kit, messing the barcelona's stripes and a tea towel?

United have red socks!? :S

Wasn't there a big thing about how Barcelona's shirts this year were dehydrating players because the recycled water bottles it was made out of weren't letting air through? Can't wait for those technological advances.. From nike's standpoint I think keeping City with Umbro was a good look. As city grew I'd think it'd help Umbro grow. I'm sure this will be gold for Asia though. Hoping they just continue where umbro will be leaving off, or have city be exclusively nike sportswear or something. only a couple things come to mind that ive actually liked (when they did Valencia , 2008?holland, and Psv)

When I read this post this post my heart nearly broke.
I love umbro, its a great thing that city are with umbra because umbra do great jerseys.
Umbro connects city to its past, umbro relates to England, about manchester!!, umbro differentiates itself form all the other really successful clubs that wear nike or adidas.
I am so sad but this does not come at a surprise, nike, after like about three years, have realized that City are going places and they want to sponsor that success. And because theses nike scums own umbro, they have the total ability to step. But Why should WE conform? Why should City have to change because a club in moving toward success? I don't want city to be looked at like just another arsenal, barcelona, man utd. I want city to have a separate group, a solo group, and Umbro helped city differentiate itself. keeping Umbro will show that we don't want to conform.

But once again, success will take place wearing the jerseys of a corrupt Company, who not only have been accuse of exploitation in CHina, but who control the entire football industry and leave no chance for the small groups. Corruption always rules and it kills me. !!

IS THERE SOMETHING WE CAN DO?? A PETITION OR SOMETHING? City official need to understand that this is unacceptable and that the FANS (aka the most important part of the club) don't want this!
Why we need revenue??? common we can't get it off the jerseys, than everyone in my city in the US will be wearing them. UNCOOL! UMBRO FOREVER!!

A usable excuse for Pep now they've had a shite season?

If they keep it simple, we'll be alright. No checkered tablecloths, thunderbolts, dragons, daft fucking stripes.

Hopefully someone with some common sense from the club will run the rule over everything before any final decisions are made.

Yes yes yes. Love every bit of this, it's basically a perfect City shirt.
That shirt was a work of art

While I agree with you, it's a work of art, my favourite was the following year. The blue a little muted, subtle pin-stripes, that to me was perfect. The collar on that years while gorgeous, looks a wee bit tight around the neck and not very comfortable.

Indeed. This particular kit is the best City kit of all time. The one the year before (the first Umbro one for a while) was okay, but it looked like an amateur piece compared to this. Winning the FA Cup in that kit was so fitting, it was a proper spendid kit!

Not read the thread, but I'm sure that only one team per city (other than London) can be sponsered by one of the big boys (Nike/Adidas).

Think Liverpool-Everton / Newcastle-Sunderland / Birmingham-Villa

Does this mean the scum will be 'downgraded' ?

erm no celtic and rangers usually have same kit makers and sponsor

Don't be upsetting those Geordies ahead of Sunday now. Mind you, we're a bit like Newcastle and Sunderland, we've got close neighbours, but not in the same city.

I have noticed that nearly all current Umbro sponsorships have been changed to different deals (barring England and Sevilla). I think Umbro is feeling the economic pinch as well.

Suspect it is to get more money, plus I would wager it helps in attracting the mega stars who might have deals with Nike. We have arrived :-)

Probably just sour grapes from those with no bottle. Most of them don't sancerrely mean anything by it. Someone will clar-et all up with an apology, so put a cork in it.

Yep they are bottling it on this thread.

I felt a slight twinge of something resembling sadness at this when I first read it. We have a long history with Umbro although it would be even longer if they hadn't got greedy and forgotten where they came from in the nineties, but I'm a very forgiving sole so that's all in the past as far as I'm concerned.

That said, they are a global brand that is part of the Nike family in any event, so it's hardly a time for misty eyed sentimentality.

This deal represents another stage in the evolution of this football club. This will be as big a deal to Nike as it is to us, which speaks for itself.

This football club is going to continue on an upward trajectory until it stands shoulder to shoulder with the big names in the sport. The days of laughing at our gaffe prone Chief Excecutve, our naive forrays into the transfer market and our tendency for self-destruction both on and off the pitch are drawing to a close. Make no mistake, fans of other clubs are finally waking up to the reality of the seriousness of the 'project'. We are becoming a force to be feared in the game of football and I, for one, am loving every fucking minute of it.

Have to agree that the umbro home kit from a few seasons ago is one of my favourites. But I think that Nike do have some quality kits out there as well. Im not sure how to upload photos on here but France's home kit last year was one of the classiest around and similar style to umbros simplistic styled shirts. if anyone can put a picture up of it i would be happy to see a similar city shirt to this...

This one ?
thats the one yeah cheers. personally think thats a quality kit! and i dont mind last seasons french away the striped white and blue one

If we could get this in sky blue with white trim, WHITE SHORTS and blue socks it would be the perfect football kit.
