Manchester City will join forces with car marker Daihatsu as they join rivals United in forging a number of global sponsorships.

The deal will see the oldest car manufacturer in Japan become City’s official automotive partner in Indonesia next season – the first football club to do so in Daihatsu’s 106-year history.

City’s players will embark on a summer trip to Indonesia as part of the club’s South East Asian tour, and will also film a TV advert for the company.

Tom Glick, chief commercial and operating officer for Manchester City, is looking forward to raising the Blues’ profile across the world.

“To be chosen as Daihatsu’s first ever Football Club Partner is not only a huge privilege, but a compliment to City’s growing appeal around the world,” he said.

“City and Daihatsu share both a pioneering spirit and commercial ambition, driving both brands forward.

“We look forward to working with Daihatsu to create innovative campaigns for the millions of Indonesian fans and customers of both of our organizations fusing their passion for great football and cars.”

Amelia Tjandra, marketing director of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), Daihatsu sole agent in Indonesia, insisted the car maker wanted to take advantage of City’s growing popularity.

She said: “Manchester City enjoys a huge following in the region and Daihatsu’s market share has grown and grown over the last four years, to the second largest for eco-friendly compact cars in the country.”

Isn't the key word "Indonesia"? Nissan looking towards Europe for growth so after the Cartel cup sponsorship a big club sponsorship in the most watched football League would make some sense.

There's a hidden message in that.

thought you were saying that to me then ...... i was getting my handbag out ..... lol

just seems odd why Nissan and Daihatsu would get in to someone else's bed together and agree who gets what to play with what.

Re: Nissan?

I genuinely can't find anything to suggest that we have a sponsorship deal with Nissan. I'm wondering if there's actually just a rule which says that CL entrants must display adverts for CL sponsors at domestic games at a certain frequency (say, once every 10 games).

I don't think it's that, I've never seen a Gazprom ad. I'm guessing either something to do with the academy, Minihad, or official automobile partner, just not ready to be announced yet.

Re: Nissan?

Watching the Extended Highlights on the OS .... there is matchside ads for Nissan .... and 188BET, FOSTERS, SKYSPORTS .... (Paddy Power, Heikenen and BT Sport are official club partners according to the OS)?

i think they are just general, matchday ads

I guess we'll see although City's official betting partner is now listed as 188Bet:
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mcfc.co.uk/The-Club/Club-Partners/188Bet" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mcfc.co.uk/The-Club/Club-Partners/188Bet</a>

Heineken is now longer listed as a partner on the OS, maybe it's about to be replaced by Fosters, perhaps a bit of synergy with Melbourne City.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mcfc.com/The-Club/Club-Partners" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mcfc.com/The-Club/Club-Partners</a>

I assumed that there were no BT ads because the game was on Sky, but I don't see BT sports listed on the OS either.
There isn't a chance that Sky Sports could be our new partner?? lol

As I said earlier, there is precedent for this kind of thing, on the last day of the 2008-2009 season, our shirts still said Thomas Cook on the front, while the boards had Etihad ads. And then they took over as our main sponsor the following season.

Seems 188BET is our official INTERNATIONAL betting partner.
PaddyPower is our official UK betting partner

Are we looking at different sites? ... and you mean Melbourne Heart?

probably cos it was on Sky, but BT Sport is listed on the OS as a partner .... check the footer if you have trouble finding it.

i wonder if we have a 2-tier sponsorship system ... 'international' sponsors and 'regional' sponsors .... would explain why we seem to have conflicts like Nissan/Daihatsu and PaddyPower/188BET?

I think you're right about the international vs. regional sponsors, because living in Canada, when I look at the official site, these are the sponsors I see listed on the partner page, and also on the footer:
Etihad, Nike, Etisalat, TCA Abu Dhabi, aabar, Hays, LG, Forex.com, Richard Mille (only in the footer), EA Sports, Thomas Cook Sport, 188Bet, Viagogo, Jaguar Energy Drink, Ion, 2Stic.

But then when I look the same website address in Chrome using Zenmate, which changes my location to the UK, I see these partners added:
BT Sport, Heineken, Harvey Nichols and Sytner Group. And no 188BEt listed.

No Nissan or Fosters listed on either of them. Yet.
