No More Champions League For Me

So point 12.. How exactly do you define "tourists" then? How do you identify a tourist at a game? I'm not English but try to attend matches when ever I am in the country. I sing and support the team even when the "locals" around me are dead silent. I don't take selfies during the match and consider myself a passionate enough supporter.

You simply can't judge the loyalty and commitment of every international supporter based on assumptions you have. Most of us tourists are there to see our beloved city and are passionate supporters.

I do think however that people who genuinely have no interest in supporting city should have their own "neutral" section. This would also help with the atmosphere in the ground bringing all the singing supporters together. But that's for another post..

I afraid it's domestic football only for me from now on. I've been increasingly disillusioned with the so called Champions League for some time and my decision is not just a reaction to last night. I will save my money for our Wembley trips from now on.
reasons :-
1. Bent referees
2. Blatantly rigged draws designed to ensure half a dozen big clubs progress

3. Rip off ticket prices
4. FFPR designed to protect half a dozen big clubs
5. No alcohol in grounds.
6. UEFA effectively condoning racist chanting
7. UEFA insisting no domestic games are played on CL nights
8. Season ticket holders being forced out of their seats for press seats and bigger advertising boards
9. Meaningless group games with nothing at stake
10. Obvious bias by high ranking UEFA officials (eg Platini) towards certain clubs and against English clubs in particular City
11. Heavy handed and often thug like policing abroad
12. The Etihad filled with tourists on Champions League nights
its quite easy realy, 1 are you watching the game
2 are you taking photo`s of the crowd while the game is on
3 are you taking pictures of yourself
4 are you playing on a computer
5 are you staring at an ipad
in short , if you have no interest in the game or city you shouldn't be at the game , no matter where you are from or what you look like. This is not FUCKING ALTON TOWERS.

I completely agree with that. As I said in my post below. Those people piss me off just as much. Have a separate section for them or go a little hardcore and allow the stewards to take action on people who are disrupting the match for other supporters and clearly have no interest in city. I've been told off by stewards for much lesser things (like running down the ramp from the top tier!)

I was only saying the same at work this morning, £150 wasted due to a piss poor ref.

Just feels like when we began our journey and no premiership ref would give us a break, I said at the time we needed to buy a top quality ref like all the big boys had. Sadly the chumps league will be a much tougher nut to crack.

But we shouldn't give up, not now.

Lots more Champions League for me. Love it, my City playing Europes best, never thought I would see the day so I'm not missing out on it whilst it lasts. Don't care what agendas there are, as long as City are playing I'll be there. It wasn't long ago I was hoping for a Europa League spot based on Fair Play award so now we deserve to be at the top table I'm not giving up on my beloved blues.

Laughable this belief that some have that the club can move forward by standing still!

Facts are, that if we want to compete on a global scale we will need to think, act and accept things on a global scale. We will become a tourist attraction, it's simply unavoidable. People are sheep and they will go and 'bah' wherever they are herded.

Currently, and for many years to come, City will be where it is happening. Fans, whether new or old will come and watch. They will probably look very different when sat side by side. The old will speak with a familiar accent and drink tea from a flask, the new will speak English as a 2nd language and drink wine from a glass!

Eventually, with sustained success, the new will become the old and things will have changed forever. Sadly the days of cycling to the match and paying Claremont Road folks a tanner to store your bike in their yard have long gone.

I can understand people fearing change and worrying that there will come a day when they and the club are no longer together. This is nothing new, times change, people change and things move on. Perhaps, the real worry is how fast it's happening.

By any measure Tuesday was something special. More so it was another first for the club. Next year will be even better as for the 1st time in history, we will be back in that same competition and United will not!

For me, after years of misery and playing 2nd fiddle to United, that is justification enough for the changes I am seeing and the speed they are happening.

May I suggest, that if people want to watch a Shit team and avoid Champions League football, that the Etihad is no longer the place to be! Try Old Trafford instead.

I can just imagine a conversation between Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon:

SM: We now have a team strong enough to compete at Champions League level!
K: But your majesty, the Champions League is crap, the pies are too expensive, and all those tourists!
SM: Your right. Lets pull the plug on this whole charade. Sack Pellegrini, get Gary Megson on the phone, meet Barcelona's transfer fee for Aguero, put the squad up for sale, and lets target the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, I want us to be there by 2017 at the latest. 5 years down the line, I want us to be making a challenge for the Unibond First Division.

Very creative that, but what point are you making? Even by exaggeration, what are you trying to say?
How does a few of us saying we don't enjoy watching the European games as much as the domestic comps, for a range of reasons, have anything to do with the Johnstones Paint?
I've not read anyone say we should pull out of the comp, but that's the line those who disagree with the OP seem to be resorting to. As if it's 'oh you don't enjoy it, let's play Macc then'.

I'm not giving up on them either, but I'd still prioritise the Premier League every time; 38 games, no seeding based on history - instead its an equal, new competition every year with a level playing field each time.
