No More Champions League For Me

The champions league competition only gets going in the last 16, unless you get drawn in the 'group of death', meaningless group games, tickets prices, Johnny come lately fans are unfortunate attributes of the modern game, and the more a club spends, the more a match going fan has to spend.
Knockout stages from the start with losers , missing eastenders and going into the supplementary cup

I can just imagine a conversation between Sheikh Mansour and Khaldoon:

SM: We now have a team strong enough to compete at Champions League level!
K: But your majesty, the Champions League is crap, the pies are too expensive, and all those tourists!
SM: Your right. Lets pull the plug on this whole charade. Sack Pellegrini, get Gary Megson on the phone, meet Barcelona's transfer fee for Aguero, put the squad up for sale, and lets target the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, I want us to be there by 2017 at the latest. 5 years down the line, I want us to be making a challenge for the Unibond First Division.

The CL is a corporate embarrassment but it has given me some of the greatest nights of my life as a supporter. Barcelona 2005, 2006, 2009 (as painful as it was). Our whole run in 2012 was out of this world and Munich was my highest point as fan after all the shit we'd been through to get there. We used to meet Liverpool a lot and even those games were somehow more special. It's a money making machine no doubt, but there is nothing like being amongst the elite. The CL involves a lot of pain and disappointment (Monaco 2004, Moscow 2008, Liverpool 2005, Barca 2006/09), but one day your Munich 2012 comes and all of that will have been worth it.

I love being involved with it, and I love that my club has finally won it and earned that status. That is the challenge City has ahead, it's a rite of passage. Mount a comeback against Barcelona in the Nou Camp like we did and this place will go ballistic.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, she might be clearing her throat but you never know maybe in years to come commentators might be talking of that magical night in Barcelona. :-)

I love the Champions league . Its better than the Premier league . I want to see us play these stellar teams in Europe over and over again . It beats watching us play the likes of West Brom and Norwich . Anyway like someone said this question wouldn't have come up if we had won on Tuesday against Barcelona .

Really, not trying to cause an argument but it seems your just pissed off ab9ut the game and how it planned out. Some of your points are dair enough but your being a tad melodramatic

Having read 20 pages of comments and having gone to the majority of home European games, uefa and CL I can see both sides of the fence but I am also airing on the side of stopping home on a school night and watching on the box with a nice cold beer in my hand.
Some of the points raised don't bother me too much but enough do to tilt the balance. Never say never but a tourist can have my place in 110 next season. I will still go on a least one European away day, they are far more fun IMO.

That's how I see it really - you have to be in it to be an 'elite' club, and I'm sure I'd go fever pitch crazy from the quarter finals onwards. A final would be incredible. Up until then though it feels a bit flat and genuinely doesn't get to me as much as a PL defeat - maybe it's that it's fairly uncompetitive until after the group stages.

I was far more excited and worried about the Chelsea league game than the Barce one, as victory would've felt like one hand on the trophy. Barca felt like a 'free' game; but don't get me wrong, beating them would have delighted me very much.

I love the way we are all so intolerant of each others views;

If you dislike the Champions League and it's format/pricing/corporatism you're a whining moaner who should go back to when we played York & Macclesfield and stand against progression.

If you like the Champions League you're a plastic armchair fan who has too much money to waste and enjoys being ripped off.

Christ alive, live and let live, shockingly some people like it and some don't! oh no whatever will we do!?!
