No More Champions League For Me

Whether or not the draw is ‘rigged’ or not, this competition for me is not the Holy Grail that a lot of people think it is. Yes, it’s a route to commercial success, yes, top players want to be in it etc, but I for one have little passion for it.

Given a choice between the League and the UCL, I’d take the League every time. In fact, as someone who grew up in the ‘60s and ’70’s, I still hold the FA Cup in pretty high esteem and a big FA Cup match is still more attractive to me than a run of the millUCL game.

The system is skewed to favour the established order, the individuals who run UEFA are invidious shit bags and you can pretty much guarantee that this years winners will be Bayern, RM or Barca. I know that some shitty teams like Utd, Chelsea and Porto have won it recently, but it will become increasingly hard for ‘shocks’ like that to happen as UEFA tighten their system to favour a few clubs.


Having had the novelty of some trips to Barca, Munich and Madrid etc, none of the fixtures in this latest draw hold any appeal, apart from the fact that City are playing in them. I’ll go to the home games, but as and when we go out to RM/Barca/Munich, I won’t be too disappointed.

Having said that, I’m really looking forward to Stoke at the weekend.

Fuck sake some fans are soft. We will have to at least beat one of the top 4 teams in the world if we are going to win it! Think about it this way, being in the group of deaths means we are the pick that all the TV companies one. We will get more exposure, more press, more interesting games. It's all good.

can see both points if honest I am more exited about playing Roma because we haven't and Shef Wednesday because it's been a while than that diving twat robben and bayern or CSKA because saw them last year, will be at every home game and try and go the aways, but getting the same draw every year is a bit dull

UEFA are very easy to dislike and they've created a competition that is very easy to dislike. It's now very easy to feel like I can give these matches a miss.

people are moaning about getting the same draw every year, but we play united, chelsea, spurs, arse and liverpool twice or sometimes more if we draw them in the cups every year and i never tire of those games, anyway roma is a new one so stop complaining .

I afraid it's domestic football only for me from now on. I've been increasingly disillusioned with the so called Champions League for some time and my decision is not just a reaction to last night. I will save my money for our Wembley trips from now on.

2. Blatantly rigged draws designed to ensure half a dozen big clubs progress

3. Rip off ticket prices
4. FFPR designed to protect half a dozen big clubs
5. No alcohol in grounds.
6. UEFA effectively condoning racist chanting
7. UEFA insisting no domestic games are played on CL nights
8. Season ticket holders being forced out of their seats for press seats and bigger advertising boards
9. Meaningless group games with nothing at stake
10. Obvious bias by high ranking UEFA officials (eg Platini) towards certain clubs and against English clubs in particular City
11. Heavy handed and often thug like policing abroad
12. The Etihad filled with tourists on Champions League nights

Can't blame him. Champions League should just be for champions instead of plastic clubs that are only there because of sugar daddies.
