No More Champions League For Me

someone will always take your place if you jump off the bus.

You should feel fortunate to actually be in the position to go regularly to watch City, some people don't have that choice.

I'M contemplating not joining this scheme next year and just picking and choosing the games. See who we get in the draw first. Moscow and Plzen games didn't really appeal to me.

Never been a fan of this competition and even before we got in it I only ever watched United to see if they got beat and never bothered with any of the other games and I think I've only been to about 4 of the home games in the last three years.

However I really don't think we were better than Barca over the two legs. Can't really complain about MDM's sending off and it was a borderline penalty in real time and only with the hindsight of replays it was just on the line. Look at Messi's penalty at the Nou Camp when it wasn't given he didn't complain once but just got up and on with the game whereas we all went screaming to the ref who is never ever going to change his mind. Also thought as clear as it was a penalty for us Dzeko throwing his arms up and screaming like he'd took a bullet to the chest went against him, too theatrical. They had two goals wiped off and we didn't really give it a good enough go over both legs to go through.

Our players have played enough games at the top level to know how European football works so I don't see it as an excuse we were inexperienced we were just bloody too naive. Start playing them at their own game. Everyone whingeing about this competition will soon change their mind (including me) when we eventually do get to the final.

15 years ago today we played Macclesfield.
Yesterday we entertained one of the best club sides ever seen.
I went to both.
I think on balance I preferred last night.

I afraid it's domestic football only for me from now on. I've been increasingly disillusioned with the so called Champions League for some time and my decision is not just a reaction to last night. I will save my money for our Wembley trips from now on.
reasons :-
1. Bent referees
2. Blatantly rigged draws designed to ensure half a dozen big clubs progress

3. Rip off ticket prices
4. FFPR designed to protect half a dozen big clubs
5. No alcohol in grounds.
6. UEFA effectively condoning racist chanting
7. UEFA insisting no domestic games are played on CL nights
8. Season ticket holders being forced out of their seats for press seats and bigger advertising boards
9. Meaningless group games with nothing at stake
10. Obvious bias by high ranking UEFA officials (eg Platini) towards certain clubs and against English clubs in particular City
11. Heavy handed and often thug like policing abroad
12. The Etihad filled with tourists on Champions League nights

I will have all your tickets then thanks, everyone has an opinion and you are no different but most of the points on your list are incorrect at best.

I agree with most of the points, except No3. I don't think City have ripped us off in pricing tickets at The Etihad.

That's what I've been thinking all season.

Paid £99 for the CL bundle but in hindsight I would have only gone to the Bayern game and probably just watched the other two on tele and saved myself £50.

As long as your a season ticket holder you will always be able to get your seat if your not in the scheme anyway

I don't fork out money like most of you do, so it's easy for me to say this I guess. Playing in the CL would have been something we only dreamt of not very long ago, and would have questioned the sanity of someone if they had said we would be CL regulars. Here we are though, yet people are saying it's shit, corrupt, that they don't want to be in it and that they would rather just play domestic competitions. What would you say if the fans of another club were saying all this, conveniently after exiting the competition or losing games during it? Does it not come across as a bit of a sore loser kind of thing?

I love the passion and emotion from our fans, it's a trait that makes us a special club. However some of the knee-jerk reactions and over the top declarations on here are a little cringe. Yes the ref was poor over the two legs, yes the ranking system is in favour of the more successful historically than on current form, yes UEFA are a frustratingly useless organisation at times, but not one of you would shun the competition if city ever manage to get a final. We have had some bad luck over recent years in Europe but we are improving. And year on year we will get better, and we will be more respected in this competition. And one day, on a glorious night in some European city, we WILL walk against a backdrop of blue and white, our fabulous, noisy, passionate fans 100% behind us for the final of the Champs League. And every single one of you who is complaining in this thread will love it! And rightly so.

This isn't meant as a dig to those posting their feelings of frustration, it's just meant as a polite reminder that this is the competition that means the most to our players, to our club, and deep down most of our fans too. Personally I think we can hold our heads high after Wednesday, regardless of the press bull****. For now, we are out. But one day we will win this cup and we shouldn't try and kid ourselves that it won't be the biggest moment in our history.

Excellent post.

Just back from Barca yesrday and my immediate post match reaction echoes yours, commercial interests clearly come into play in the decision making and there is a definite bias in favour of the established order, the existence of G14 proves the fact that there are massive anti competitive elements to which UEFA either turn a blind eye or actively encourage. Its up to us to reach the level where we are considered as being vital to the top table.
I rarely if ever enjoy European games but still retain the hope. The days out are great but knackering.
