If you want to go then go but I am not going this season through choice.I will probably go to roma at home but no others.I simply prefer domestic competition.Can't really say why but after so many false dawns prior to the takeover I think I am getting used to enjoying domestic success.

i agree with you, we all make choices in life
some choose to move out of the area and still travel 100s of miles to get to games
some choose to watch on TV
some pick and choose games, some try to go to all

it's all about freedom of choice

i thought after the Barca away game the whole thing was so corrupt that i wouldn't be going again, but I'll be cheering us on in Rome

Totally uninspiring draw has taken the wind out of my sails in all honesty. Bayern AGAIN, boring. Cska again, boring. Arsenal get dortmund again, boring. Chelsea get schalke again, boring.

Who did that? I certainly didn't. I took the piss out of anyone who looks down on other blues because they may not attend Champions League matches.

Ok no problem. Just after the drama of your deciding not to go to CL matches and the shock and awe reaction from your wife I was surprised that you were considering going to 33.3% of our home Champions League matches :-)

No need to get sensitive. I'm not holding myself up as any kind of super fan. Just surprised at the number of people who don't care about European football. I don't recall too many saying "fuck the champions league" when we were trying to get into it but I'm sure they just didn't realise then that the club would attract new supporter (tourists), that the CL had a seeding/co efficient system, and that they wouldn't be able to buy beer or sit with their regular mates for a top laugh.

Going to the games though isn't always necessary. I've been blue since day born and consider myself to be a pretty rock-solid fan, can certainly afford the extra games but just think, "fuck it, I'll watch it on the telly". Surely that shouldn't adversely affect someone's view of my loyalty?

I'm not sure I agree.

I hardly go to any games these days because I live 200 miles away. Does that make me less of a blue than someone who flies over from Ireland for every home game? Yes, I think it does. I have huge respect for such people who have greater commitment and dedication than I do.

Perhaps the words "fan" and "supporter" are often interchanged, when really they are different terms. I would say I am a huge City fan, but as a supporter, a bit shabby since I don't go and support much.

I;m going to bump this thread when we have our first proper famous Champions League victory at The Etihad. This could be as soon as few weeks, of course, or could be next year in the knockouts. Regardless, it's coming, and it will be the first of many.

The Champions League is the next step, the next hurdle, the final frontier. It's where the next proper glory is coming from. when we pit ourselves against, and beat, the best in the world. We are set up to challenge for, and win, the thing, which would make us the most lauded team in the world. It will fulfil the Sheikh's dream. And mine.

You'd think we were Blackburn Rovers or Celtic the way some of you people talk on here.

I get where your coming from DD but I understand other blues not being convinced that the chumps league is the greatest thing on earth ,ever, and has just GOT to be won at all costs.
the UEFA sharks are not having my money AND telling me I,m not allowed to drink.they can get to fuck.its a football match not the opera.
I am completely underwhelmed by the whole plastic thing.

I might be interested if it was 20 quid in and stand up,and drink beer,and smoke....but as it stands , the competition is not one I would care to support City in.that comes from the heart, it isn,t a choice. I just don't feel the excitement but I do smell the cash.

yes I will be a hypocrite if I,m asking for tickets at a later stage this year or next. who knows? but for me, its not the be and end all.

Michel Platini has sold out European football to save his own career and reputation. Not just City, but every other European club that doesn't belong to the charmed circle of "elite clubs". Traumatised at the thought that he may be remembered as the man who saw "the breakaway" of the CL gang he sold out to them: first with the introduction of the preposterous seeding arrangements to protect these clubs in the CL and secondly by FFPR to make sure no-one could really compete with them domestically either. This is an enormous reason to get right behind City rather than boycott the CL matches.

"If we have to take a pinch along the way, then we'll take a pinch", said our chairman. And we feel we're stronger than ever. The result of throwing "groups of death" our way is that we've got more experience of big matches in 3 seasons than Wenger's bunch have in 17! The way to show UEFA what we think of them is to win the CL, not opt out of it. Then let Vinnie present the trophy to HRH Sheikh |Mansour as soon as he receives it.

Everyone to his own, but how anyone could prefer to see Sheffield Wed in a fairly irrelevant competition to Bayern and Roma is beyond me.
