No More Champions League For Me

The negativity in this thread is both ridiculous and depressing. First we spend years trying to get in the CL and dreaming of being in it. We've been in it for five minutes and now half of you want out because you're a bunch of moaning miserable ungrateful bastards. Harsh but true.

These were the ties some of us longed for down the years. Being able to play the likes of Barca, Bayern - hell even CSKA Moscow. Too many of you seem completely unbothered about the actual football and just want to moan about the lack of alcohol, the lack of atmosphere, the price, the food, the weather, whatever you can think of.

sorry mate.but you,ve rather Mister the point.

I'm on the Dole and still afford to go to Champs league home games, I just have £50 less food that week, I can't afford to have a beer at the match but I go for the football. We have dreamed of being in this position for decades and not having a few luxuries one week is a very small price to pay for me. Was really hard to get the money for my season ticket saved but I know I can't lose it as it's gone forever!!! But I do understand I'm single and it's different for families but if food and beer are too expensive don't buy them...simple!! City - I starve for you !!!!!

I;m going to bump this thread when we have our first proper famous Champions League victory at The Etihad. This could be as soon as few weeks, of course, or could be next year in the knockouts. Regardless, it's coming, and it will be the first of many.

The Champions League is the next step, the next hurdle, the final frontier. It's where the next proper glory is coming from. when we pit ourselves against, and beat, the best in the world. We are set up to challenge for, and win, the thing, which would make us the most lauded team in the world. It will fulfil the Sheikh's dream. And mine.

You'd think we were Blackburn Rovers or Celtic the way some of you people talk on here.

I get where your coming from DD but I understand other blues not being convinced that the chumps league is the greatest thing on earth ,ever, and has just GOT to be won at all costs.
the UEFA sharks are not having my money AND telling me I,m not allowed to drink.they can get to fuck.its a football match not the opera.
I am completely underwhelmed by the whole plastic thing.

I might be interested if it was 20 quid in and stand up,and drink beer, and smoke....but as it stands , the competition is not one I would care to support City in.that comes from the heart, it isn,t a choice. I just don't feel the excitement but I do smell the cash.

yes I will be a hypocrite if I,m asking for tickets at a later stage this year or next. who knows? but for me, its not the be and end all.
roll on sheff wed in the cup-proper cup tie, hopefully reasonably priced.

"and smoke" - you really are dreaming!

Everyone to his own, but how anyone could prefer to see Sheffield Wed in a fairly irrelevant competition to Bayern and Roma is beyond me.

Should we support City whatever the competition they're in?? I know I do!!

I am totally disillusioned with this competition. That said, I have never attended a Cash League game - my mates go for me.
The competition is a forced format and lacks the beauty of the FA Cup or even our own League Cup format.

well said mate.
" oh look- you,ve drawn bayern again for the 8th season running.. £298 for a seat at the etihad, no drinking allowed, no standing, no swearing, no smoking, dont mention the war, dont mention the price, dont mention owt really...just attend the cash -league game.roll up"

I've never dreamed of these games at all, I've just dreamed of City doing well domestically winning the league, fa cup to me the CL is just a by product of this. I've never seen Barca etc as our rivals or the passion to beat them, I want us to stuff the rags, dippers and Chelsea every week playing great football. Even now I don't get excited about these games as it's all so sanitised and to a degree boring, I'll support City no matter what but in my own way, if we one day win brilliant but if we don't I'm not that bothered. I'd rather win 10 premier leagues than 1 CL.

Every single bastard year the same, deafman. Does it not bother you that the other English teams always seem to get a virtual pass and we end up in the most difficult group? I repeat. IT IS EVERY SINGLE TIME.

i get your point pam , but love playing the big teams, i enjoying watching good players and its usually a better atmosphere.
and it will be all the sweeter when we win it.

its ok watching the big teams but they get looked after on and off the pitch. we played in munich a couple of years ago, we had 2 stonewall pens turned down. so not only do we have to survive differcult groups(every time) we get done over should we make a go of it.
i'll be doing the euro games but i can see what the op is saying.

Champions League games can be incredibly tight games, where match officials have a much bigger role to play than in domestic games.

Think back to last season. We had a very experienced ref for City v Barcelona but he was incredibly biased towards Barcelona not allowing us to tackle them. He gave a penalty which was incorrect.

There seems to be a lot more cynical play and pressurising of refs in these games. You watch for example players like Ramos and Pepe in a Champions League game. They bend the rules. They don't do this in League games unless its against Barcelona.

Do we copy what they do? Similar to Man Utd and Liverpool players in the penalty box. One touch, one hand on a shirt and down they go. I am afraid to say that if everyone else does it, we are mugs if we don't do the same.

I think the general lack of interest from some of us is borne out of the indisputable fact that the governing body clearly do not want us to compete in the competition on an equal footing to the ‘established order’. As somebody said earlier, this competition was created in our absence and we do not feel a part of it. Our squad is reduced, we are not allowed to spend the same amount of money as others, inflated ticket prices and, until the latter rounds, pretty sterile football, is it any surprise that we are losing interest?

I'm not a huge fan of the competition, there's a lot more diving and play acting, the refs clearly favour the established elite, it costs a fortune to attend the games and we're continually playing the same teams over and over again.

However, there will come a point in the next few years when we win this competition, and I want to be there when we do, so I'll keep going.

Plus, regardless of the football, the away days are fucking brilliant.
