No More Champions League For Me

Its a fair point we are still along way behind the likes of Bayern be it the reason being personnel, tactics or the combination of the both.
Actually its not a fair point, because we are now at the level where fine margins make a huge difference.

When we were pretty well humbled 2 years ago, in a group we should have finished second in (despite being a tough group with 3 champions), and managed just 3 points, it was a fair point.

The previous year we managed the most points for a team knocked out at the group stage, and last year we managed the most points for a team not winning their group.

We'll qualify again this year imho, and I think we'll go further than last year, but when the competition is stacked against us 3 years out of 4, small margins make a big difference.

Well we will know soon enough and I hope you are right. We seemed to be making the same mistakes against a good but not elite European side. You are correct its a tough group but if we are only separated by fine margins from the likes of Bayern we should qualify. No one is surprised Bayern are going to go through

It's extremely rare I post on here, to be honest I find it a pain in the arse if I post something that rubs certain people the wrong way. But I've been reading this thread and need to say why I think a lot of people are 'down on the champions league'.
It's because we've never come close to replicating the feats of United in Europe. Let's get one thing straight before I go any further - I HATE Fergie and the players who played for him! But the guy was immense when it came to tactics, mind games and getting the most out of sometimes average teams. And he did it for fucking years! God I hated them for it.
And now we're in the champions league having spent a shed load of money on players and pissed off a lot of people, we have a beautiful stadium and some new silverware, but we look CLUELESS as to how to get to those heights the rags achieved. We look at the performances like against Roma and many others and it's just not there! The gulf between us and Bayern and Real is so big it's depressing and we just don't look like we have a clue to close that gap. Is spending more money the answer? I don't think it is. Getting rid of Manny? No way!
So what do we do? Well some of us say "I've had it with the Champions league".
I await the abuse :-)
Your first instinct not to post that was correct.

Why? I thought this was an open forum? Aren't forums designed to allow a gathering of opinions?

how do you think the rags would have done if the draw wasn't fixed? how would they get out of the groups we have had in order to progress in the first place? what about abandoning the FA cup for a season to lessen games to be played? and of course flukey wins like terry slipping in a pen shootout.
if we do it it'll be done the right way and will be sweeter for it.

Redeyes has forgotten the years Utd went in Europe without success and some poorly attended European games along the way.

It's pretty sad that people on here find it easier to accept conspiracy theories like fixed draws etc, than other people's simple opinions. Exactly why I hardly post on here and why I won't be bothering again. Sorry but this forum is becoming a fucking joke. I am not a rag, I have supported City since I was 4 (40 years).

United’s Champion’s League game with Cluj in December. and they had no choice but to pay if a season ticket holder

The GMP figures recorded a crowd of just 46,894, with the club claiming an attendance of 71,521.

Especially when the season United won the CL in 1999, they had both Barça and München in the group stage.

That blokes obsession with the conspiracy is staring to damage the credibility of his posts, for me.

Come back and post pal. This place is just full off masochists and WUMs, but there are still some good discussions to be had sometimes.
