I don’t disagree at all with your point and Gateshead still have a justifiable axe to grind about how they got booted from the EFL in the 60s. But just to be devil’s advocate a little, Gateshead do not have a great track-record of stability and as we’ve seen with clubs like Coventry, there’s been issues arising from clubs not owning their own grounds. So, it’s maybe understandable that the EFL are being very cautious around them.

well they will never own their own ground if they can't advance and hopefully increase revenues is denied them. It the same story throughout football - some teams just interested in protecting their own status.

Its also important as a national and international track and field venue. If I was a business owner in the area I'd be mad with the council too - march up the league can lead to more visitors and more business. In the end it all seems to revolve around the council trying to bring in an outside operator to run the gaff - but they will still remain owners so a new operator can't sell it from under the football club

Do City own their own ground? I thought they pay rent to MCC? If so, apart from the 10 year lease. What is the difference?

Gateshead appear to have been shafted. I can understand the EFL wanting stable clubs, but do all 72 current EFL clubs have use of the stadium guaranteed for 10 years?

Altrincham safely in the National League playoffs. Would be bizarre if they made League Two....

How so?? Do you know the history of Altrincham at all??
Missed out on the ridiculous voting system several times in the late 70s/early 80s (rags apparently to blame as they didn't want another FL club in the area).
Missed out in 1991, when promotion was automatic, due to fixture congestion at the end of the season
Pretty successful club for the most part

I know the club that got booted and the new one are different, however the current club has almost gone out of business twice in the last 20 years and also had to once play half a season’s worth of home games away from home due to the state of the pitch.

Do City own their own ground? I thought they pay rent to MCC? If so, apart from the 10 year lease. What is the difference?

MCC are very clearly supportive of City. Gateshead Council, for whatever reason, haven’t been as demonstrative.

It took until 1987 for automatic promotion/relegation to come in - the EFL is run by dinosaurs that said.........
The problem is Gateshead were aware of the situation at the start of the season, when all clubs have to submit their application to the EFL. They've actually been shafted by their local authority who have been intransigent over their lease.
What still amazes me is that it's taken to the days before the playoffs - Alty were even selling tickets because this hadn't been sorted. Non-league for ya!!!

yes i do thanks, my point was in the context of all that you list..... bizarre it hasn't happened before, bizarre as they've stayed part time for so long. But thanks for the recap, it'll be great if they make it.

It’s been a good season for Wythenshawe clubs down in the North West Counties.

Wythenshawe ( Amateurs) FC won the Premier League and have been promoted for the second successive season.

Just pipping Wythenshawe Town to the title, who now enter the playoffs with a Semi Final against either Padiham or Kendal Town.

The new Bury team could be waiting in the final if they get through that.

On the local news Gateshead haven't denied that they knew but the performance was much better than expected throughout the season - what this tells me there is no point in pulling your tripes out for zero reward
