North Korea

As someone who's about to work in the states for the summer can already tell that a few things and there was a study mid 2000's satating something like %90 of the americans they asked did not have a passport. they seem to have little knowledge of the world around them and also there's no way a guy in Chicago can claim to have anything in common with or be similair to a guy in Texas for example pretty much 2 completly different countries if you wanted to put it that way as oposed to states.

as for the most free country in the world.

are you fucking sure?

Why did a thread about North Korea turn it Into an opportunity for some Brits to shots at America and its citizens? Nobody said anything negative about britain ..some of you are real hateful douchebags towards us ..it's funny we banter about football and everything's cool but when a political topic comes about you show your true hateful colors..it's funny because no Americans on here felt any need to insult Britain and I wish I can say the respect was mutual but some of you don't have that..especially the lowlife that said he hopes North Korea bombs the White House the pentagon and whatever other important American landmarks..what makes you any any different than racists or the terrorists who wish death upon innocent people..it's disgusting I won't stoop to your level to insult Britain because I have respect for your country because in the end we are all human beings with eyes a mouth legs and arms like everyone else..it's just disappointing and unfortunate that some of you are incapable of that same respect ..disgusting

As someone who's spent about half of my adult life in England and half in the US I can say that 90%of the people here are just as stupid and un educated as that 90% of America . Where is more free than the US?

I had a little trouble understanding what you said to begin with, but here goes..

Britain is the size of OREGON, a small NW state amongst 49 others and Puerto Rico!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but almost EVERYTHING one looks for from a vacation has been available to people in the Contiguous US WITHOUT a passport (Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Hawai'i, Alaska). However, that fact notwithstanding, I would agree that many Americans have less knowledge of the wider world than some people who live in much closer proximity to other countries, cultures and languages.

"....no way"???

I guess you think that no-one ever moves from one city to another??? My best friend from Texas lives in Colorado and his best friend from England lives in Illinois! Travel....go figure!

However, you actually play into MY point in that there are many "little countries" inside the Lower 48, with Alaska, Hawai'i and Puerto Rico being three other "countries," which means many people can enjoy vastly different sights, climates and experiences WITHIN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.

I'll go out on a limb and say "YES, I'm FUCKING sure!" You thinking of somewhere else that has more freedoms, because I know FOR A FACT it is NOT Britain, which is getting more like a scene from V for Vendetta by the day! However, you DO STILL have the edge on North Korea when it comes to freedoms!

Are you fucking joking? The American government under the NDAA has given itself powers of indefinite detention and the right to kill US citizens on its own soil without a trial. It has ridiculous levels of snooping power as well courtesy of the Patriot Act - what a classically Orwellian name. It doesn't get more draconian than that. Add that to the fact that the police get away with shooting innocent people on a regular basis, the drinking age is 21 and gambling is illegal in most states, it has the biggest prison population in the world, absolute and per capita. Tell me where the freedom is? America is the least free western country, without question. Anyone who thinks America is some bastion of freedom is no friend of liberty.

The U.S.A

Speak the same language.
Bigger, diverse country.

What about the people of Diego Garcia? Where would they like to live?

What country has committed more human rights violations? The U.S.A or North Korea? Which country has the larger amount of people suffering due to it's policies?

Which country has an all you can eat breakfast for Under $5.00?

The same one that imposes food sanctions on the other to prevent that from being possible ??? ;)

I'm pretty certain the US hasn't imposed food sanctions on anybody. I do accept that other sanctions sometimes have what you and I would consider undesirable consequences, maybe these are desirable/foreseeable for the US, but the fact is when you want to bring change you need a stick not a feather. Unsettle the population you unsettle the leaders, I don't think that is a strategy that would work in North Koreas case.

Is it acceptable for the US to pick an choose who should have nuclear weapons? Yes. Ideological stances around self determination and fair play have to be put to one side when we are talking of these weapons. We already have two countries (India/Pakistan) that have nuclear weapons and indicated they were prepared to use them in their spat of words a couple of years ago. Iran wants and will probably get, and whilst we are deeply distrustful of that regime I think the bigger concerns are it will start a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. With North Korea they have said they would strike pre-emptively, they are unpredictable, they have a track record of firing weapons (SK navy vessel sunk, cross border shelling), if we let them get too far down the line they will bring us to the brink...their people are starving they will not revolte, the US will limit their ability to produce weapons, but like Iran they are far enough along that it is seemingly unstoppable. North Korea needs to come out of the cold but the regime know for that to happen it will be the end for them, they don't have the luxury of time, their strategy seems to me to be geared towards using the bomb to hold the world to ransom. The question is can the US live with that.
