North Stand Construction Discussion

A serious question.

A bit off topic, but it does include the North stand redevelopment.

Once everything is completed, will we, City, have the best stadium in the PL?

In my opinion only Spurs and Everton might have better stadiums? Might?
If the E and CB were extended to fill in the corners, new roof on both, no cable net, new screens on top of E and CB stands then yes, hands down City will have the biggest and best stadium in U.K.

1 spurs
2 city
3 Everton

for me that is how I rank them , city stadium great but spurs no 1 as its massive and has swappable pitches and more tiers , once the east and Colin upgraded for city then we will be on top but that's not happening anytime soon.
Everton no 3 as its a new build and its great but not quite top notch
Spurs stadium is impressive to look at but it creates little atmosphere (unless full of 9k blues on a Friday night)...
Reminds me of new build houses,hospitals..all very sterile.

That is a huge loss of seats. I wonder why none where included in the NS when the third tier was added?
If you mean south stand they already had 2 large flat areas each side where the new screens going in now , then they put in those stands for new areas but I presume there is some more around there .

Does anybody know what this is this here?
Area for wheelchair users with direct flat access to concourse there is a minimum requirement which is a % of seating look at the other stands and you will see similar areas

Nope, absolutely not. Spurs stadium is light years ahead. Pop up to EL3, it's like something out of the 80's up there, cramped concourses clad in bare concrete with Neon lighting and about as much chance of getting half time food and drink as winning the lottery.

A few areas of the ground have been tarted up and the bar in the South Stand looks good, but it is feeling it's age in a lot of other areas.

Even as a statutory minimum of 5% of the north stand (the total including Tier 1, as I assume), that works out as 640-700 seats/spaces. If only for that stand, not offsetting other areas of the stadium.

Not sure you can judge a stadium on one or two poor areas, Spurs’ away section higher up wasn’t that fantastic on the concourse. I guess that’s the nature of football stands.

Its not light years ahead on the outside of the stadium.
A stadium shoehorned into a estate

EL3 and CB3 are pretty large areas with many thousands of fans having to put up with extremely poor concourses. Whilst they are limited for space due to the poor planning when the stadium was built there are improvements that could be made such as putting sky sports or highlights on the tv screens instead of just showing food and drink options (though the absence of anything worthwhile may be an attempt to ease the overcrowding by giving fans no reason to stand around at ht etc).

Its not 5% see table below

With a relatively modern stadium, designed from the outset to accommodate those less abled City have easily complied with the requirements. I remember a few seasons back the rags having to do extensive modifications to their stadium to meet requirements. The PL also have minimum requirements
The requirements are not, as Im sure you are aware just a number of wheelchair seats, facilities signage etc are included also, people with other requirements such as a sensory room is now recommended

Taking away blue bias and I'd say absolutely not. It's a good stadium, but not great.

The inside "bowl" area is good and hopefully will be very good once the NS is finished. The NS end will be brilliant based on planning images and the scale of the thing so far.

The internal finishes of the SS extension were rushed, the corners look crap and the hodge-podge of old/new roof is a bit naff. The SS external is a bit "meh", big but unspectacular.

Extend the East/West stands and get a proper roof (one that closes perhaps) on the whole thing.

As a facility, for your average fan the food/drink outlets are poor in quality and service is dreadful. I'm sure Tunnel Club for example is amazing, but not likely to be something I'll ever be able to experience.

The exterior of the stadium is in need of some love, both the "building" itself and the surrounding area. Where they've tried to cover the greyness of the stadium with the posters showing the timeline of club history (history? What history?) is very aged, with it peeling off in many places. Aside from that it's just......grey. Concrete grey. Give it some lighting to show off club colours, or a wrap around of some sort, perhaps like Bayern's stadium.

The surrounding pedestrian areas and footpaths are crumbling, puddles all over the place and any previous attempts at adding colour to the area are cracked/fading away. The maintenance of the Blue Moon walk where people could buy little discs has been a disgrace, but should have been a stand out feature.

There's potential for the Etihad Campus to be stunning, but once the centrepiece investment has been done it does need a lot of love overall.
