North Stand Construction Discussion

I think you're missing the bigger picture. The East and West will be expanded at some point so treat this as a phase 2 of 4.
Would be interesting to see some concepts of what's possible.
Imagine to make filling the corners in worth doing there would be some kind of suites or rooms at the back but can't imagine it would be that easy.

Tell you what gets my OCD going…the difference in the sizes of the screens at the claw ends. Maybe it’s just me but they look vastly different!!
As a big fan of symmetry myself, really struggle to appreciate large scale, seemingly “hodge podge” design, especially when created for purely commercial terms.

Money over aesthetics is a long term losing proposition.

62k will be big enough for us for a long time. It seems to be the sweet spot that a lot of top clubs strive for.

I wouldn't even consider the possibility of the sides being done to be a thing at this point. The ground will be 'finished' as far as I'm concerned.
The 2nd hotel being the next thing on the agenda perhaps?

I agree. I don't think there's a realistic prospect of us increasing the capacity in the side stands. Logistically it will be incredibly difficult, and impossible without reducing capacity for a season (at least). That's a lot of upheaval and lost revenue for the club in the short term and they'll be happy they can compete with the rest of the clubs domestically at around 62k.

nowhere as bad as the missing 4th screen at the south end and the fact that the east/west 3rd tier stands weren't extended one block to the north like they were at the south end - only 500 extra seats but anything that gets us over klanfield and spuds max attendance is worth having!

Do you know what else looks meh? The fact we replaced the blue standing rails with bright yellow ones at the Joie Stadium. I swear the attention to detail is so poor at times - it looks utter shite.

Current crowds approach 52,600. If you had 7,910 seats that gets us up to 60,510. The only way we get 62k is if there are some seats at the back of the North Stand that are currently out of commission due to the works.

Why weren’t they ever extended? Seem to remember it being a straightforward job with little to no disruption and can easily be done in the close season. I sit in the extended bit in EL3 and it’s great, seamless in how it is bolted on to the old end of the stand. No brainer for me, get it done City. Especially if the plans to extend properly the sides has been shelved.

I did hear whispers of a conference complex and hotel on the Super Casino site in the future. Wonder if that complex could be incorporated into the East stand?

Yeah so would I. I'd imagine the spirals would be inside rather than outside
Yeah that and what you'd do with downstairs parts that would be outside the existing.
I watch quite a lot of stuff on baseball stadiums from the US and they nearly all seem to go with escalators and spirals are considered very throwback. So will probably happen here eventually.

It would be a huge upheaval to expand the West / East stands, but i can certainly see a possibility where they build out horizontally where the reception entrances currently are, and add more space for restaurants and hospitality. The concourses on the third tiers are crying for more space..

I would imagine it would be possible to do this in a modular fashion that wouldn’t compromise any future expansion of the West / East stands overall.
