While I'm no expert where civil engineering is concerned, I suspect that the spiral staircases are not only a means of access and egress but vital to the structural integrity of the build. If so, they're a permanent fixture. Even if I'm way off the mark, I can't see the club investing heavily simply in an attempt to improve the stadium's visual impact. I completely agree though that the aesthetics of the stadium leave a lot to be desired. Perhaps the way to go would be a colourful 'wrap' with a view to escaping the drab 1970's car park chic look. Joking aside though, I still believe it holds up well in comparison to the vast majority of football stadia. On my way into the ground on Saturday I heard a couple of Spurs fans taking the piss out of the spiral staircase entrances. Personally I love the design of the Etihad, but it did get me thinking, from an objective point of view could the spirals be improved upon?
They didn't age very well and quickly became dirty and weatherbeaten. The club did something about that by putting banners up over them, which I can understand some may think looks a bit cheap or naff.
Interested in other people's thoughts and any potential constructive ideas for how might get them up to the standard of the rest of the ground?
Led wrap them, moving adverts, would look really good and another cash generator. On my way into the ground on Saturday I heard a couple of Spurs fans taking the piss out of the spiral staircase entrances. You can see the stadium from miles away, it would be a huge landmark and would earn us a fortune.Thats a good shout about the LED wrap. Would make a big difference. I'd prefer advert free, but cash is king as they used to say.
