North Stand Construction Discussion

I’ve always thought it’s disappointing that the North stand roof doesn’t match the rest of the stadium design more and surprised more effort didn’t go into this. However, maybe this is the start to replace the other roof structures because the east and west sections are now over 20 years old and probably close to 30 by the time we do this upgrade. It’s possible the North stand roof will be the standard
It’s likely got a lot to do with creating clearance / eliminating clashes with the existing roof cable net. Very little in construction, particularly on a project like this, happens by accident.

I don’t think it’s overly different to be honest.

The roof just isn’t as seamless at the corners (internal and externally) because they’ve avoided the temporary corner structures as with the south stand. It does mean we avoid the internal roof supports on show though, as with the south stand corners, which many will find is a plus.

Does look very different in the other pics from the top but yes from the above pic not so different. Still from a design point of view would have been good to be symmetrical

Same design just bigger and not as seamless at the corners due to no temporary corner structures as at the south stand.

It’s actually closer in design to the original roof than the south stand roof is overall though since the south stand roof features a much larger transparent area to let extra light through.

Possibly, but nobody knows yet

They’re definitely temporary corners. It’s confirmed in the design documents. They’re made to be easily removed when the time comes for the sides to be expanded. Seeing as though they haven’t replicated this idea with the north stand, it goes without saying that this was seen as maybe being a bit too forward thinking…
