North Stand Construction Discussion

Whatever it’s called I can see it being a bit of a pinch point. The “inside” city square under the roof will presumably be pretty busy and if they’re gonna preserve the “home fans only” principle there will need to be some sort of security/ticket check like we used to have to get into Summerbees bar. A free pedestrian flow seems difficult?

There will be, yes. But it is inevitable with the stand extending out. The space lost is in theory lost to the stand, not really the hotel or link piece. See previous discussions on this below with images, if it helps. How they will manage it on the day, or if they will even try, no idea though.

That perimeter pathway isn't changing. The hotel and office are beyond the outer edge of it. The rooms that link the hotel are above the circle path.

If there is any reduction in the space there, it is the stand itself. But in fairness, there isn't really any way to extend the north stand without taking up the additional space.

Just a follow-up to this, if it helps. Below before and after with the circular path highlighted In darker grey, and general open space in lighter grey.

The space lost, is the extended stand itself, highlighted in light red. Which is similar to what was lost with the south stand extension.

But thay circular path itself remains unchanged, and the open space to the north of that between the two claws is actually bigger than before around the stage. The linking elements are above the path, shown in blue dots.View attachment 139107

These are level 00, 01, 02 & level 03 plans which show the walkthroughs under the commercial & hotel wings. I can't see an issue myself given that people will be coming and going from all 3 entries (4 including City Hall into the stadium itself).

I guess it will depend on how rigorous the security is to get into City Square. Would have thought at minimum it’ll be a ticket check to keep away fans out. If it’s wanding etc then will really slow down flow through

The City Square being the outdoor covered area? Rather than the indoor City Hall bit?

I would imagine the indoor bit will be ticketed and for home fans (excluding those that somehow manage to get tickets, which is another issue, before anyone jumps in with stories of it happening). The outside bit, I would expect to be a free for all, however not much point away fans going there if their drop-off and entrances are at the southern part, it would mean walking round the whole stadium to get a burger surrounded by City fans to walk all the way back. So I would expect that on match days to be predominantly City fans by default.

Put a beer/food permatent in the coach park....keep em segregated and make a few quid.

Additionaly, advise those using to metro to get off at ASDA/ANR and open a gate into the coach park in the fence where BofB was.

Simples !!

I think this was my point. The 'change' really isnt that extensive. There is a new hotel building on the edge, sure, but there was never any usable space for the public there to begin with. It has mostly been a hoarded off car park/wasteland over the years, and the actual edge of it is exactly the same.

Similarly yes there is a part of the walkway with a circa 17m wide bit of building above you. But the width of the walkway itself hasnt changed and the building is about 11m above anyway, so it won't feel that constrained or like a tunnel to go through.

The new square actually has more open space than the previous one around the stage and store, so that's an increase, and the only real loss is that of the north stand itself pushing out in footprint, but that would have been the case with or without the hotel and office. And most of that while technically open space would have had people parked in bits, sign boards, tension cable anchors and obstacles around them etc, it wasn't ever really public-friendly clear space.

We won’t know until they tell us but if there are (hopefully) bars in City Square then I can’t see the club and/or police allowing away fans to enter that area. Will be interesting to see if/how they control it.

From the Design document there are F&B bars in the square The local businesses have been told they will have a spot there Image 1-13-25 at 1.51 PM.jpeg

Probably but Strangeways pies and toasted cheese place both said they had a promise

That's a positive I guess. My comment was tongue in cheek, and very very loose guesswork. The size of the places and how these types of things usually go chains are the safe bet to fill lots of f&b, particularly ahead of time.
