North Stand Construction Discussion

Thank you to the posters who regularly provide updates and footage or pictures of the work. It's always interesting at games to check the progress, but also nice that it's documented in this thread.

Appreciate this may be regularly covered, but I did in and out on here, is the stand expansion expected to be opened in time for the start of next season? Or is it still TBC?

A couple more photos from a Daventcell2 on SSC, cropped into the ongoing facade.

They have definitely changed the intermediate vertical panels from ppc aluminium to glazed, different to what's on the mock-up or even the approved drawings.

Who or why they pushed for that change, (i.e the planners or the club as a client, on reviewing the panel) we may never find out, but I wholeheartedly welcome the change. It will be a big improvement. And it comes at a notable expense too, worth saying.

If they aren't updating the mock-up but just going straight to the build with any agreed changes, there might be hope (for those that care and have an opinion on it) that the sails might change a bit as well, without us seeing it. Who knows. Once a few of the horizontals are on that'll tell if that's staying the same.
Proof positive that Khaldoon at least, if not the Sheikh follow this thread. Have you checked who has been 'liking' yours and jrb's posts?

;)

During the season.

It won't be completed by August.

I thought the timetable was for it to be ready for the start of next season? I wonder if there's penalty clauses for late delivery of the project?

It's not going to be ready by August. Unless Coatigan and Hellocity know otherwise?

The old roof is coming off in the Summer. Then there is the fit out of the stand that will take an age.

An official timeline chart I've seen has the stand opening in January

It is, the club is still aiming to open the seats in August 2025, there will be very limited BoH with this though, I think its a mistake and hopefully they open it all as one in early 2026. But the current plan is August 2025 for seating with no LADs associated with a delay.

Na it was always end of October/early November. Word now (club's latest statements, amongst general things said) is end of the year, which many are assuming will naturally filter to January.

Big builds always normally run behind schedule.

The Coop Live arena was a prime example of that.

Even when it was opened for concerts, it was nowhere near finished, hence the public backlash and very bad press.

Thankfully the Coop Live Arena is now getting rave reviews.

I just hope City don't make a similar mistake with the North stand?

While I'm at it, the South stand needs a refurb.

Parts of it are looking tired.

Just seen this after posting, the original programme by Sisk (at least as publicly available) was end of October 25 for the stand itself. I don't remember it ever being August. Could be wrong though.
It's always been August to the contractors on the job, not unusual to have a different date internally and externally.

Regarding the dates, looked back, below was posted in April last year. Which was the first time Sisk put out anything in public. I haven't seen any updates and obviously we don't know what goes on behind the scenes (apart from anyone involved). But even then, they were (publicly at least) aiming for November for the stand.

A few of my observations and notes from the CMP document now that I have read it, in case they are of interest to anyone.

- The hotel and office block are indeed being built as in-situ concrete columns and slabs, as I expected.
- They will avoid scaffolding for the facades other than at ground to podium as I guessed. However the facades won't be unitised as I magined, but will be stick system off mewps and mast climbers.
- Currrent completion targets:
• the Stand, Nov 25
• Office block, Oct 25
• Hotel, after Apr 26
• city square, Aug 26
- The office block, currently the furthest behind, looks like it wil be the first bit to complete, with the stand shortly after. The rest into the summer the following year. Would have imagined they'd want the hotel open before the office with the revenue that brings, but there is also a lot more work in it and all the rooms.
- The steelwork is being assembled as they go on site, bit by bit onto the towers. But the skybar trusses will be pre-assembled on the ground and lifted up and installed in big pieces. That'll be something to behold.
- the terraces of tier 2 will be installed before the roof covering for this area, and they accept water will 'cascade' down them into managed storage and discharge behind the occipied tier 1, till the roof is on. Perhaps people in this area might want to wear wellies just in case.
- pretty much the day after the final match, they will begin propping the roof and will remove it during the off season bit by bit.
- This will happen from the pitch, rather than from the back, and they will also use the pitch for laying down components for removal. Better restore it well for the first game back!
- the current labour levels on site for this and the next month are 100-120 workers. This will continue to increase, peaking at 700 workers this time next year. That's more than we have fans!

Posted mine before reading this.

Yeah I get that, and you are right, not unusual.

Given the club went out their way to push back expectation to beyond what was originally noted, might be a reach to hope for August.

Maybe they just want to give themselves the room, rather than it seeming like overruns occured. Whereas if they 'promise' the end of the year, and then open early in August, happy clappers galore.

The way it is going, I personally don't see August happening.

But then, seen it so many times when that last stretch just comes together out of nowhere.

That's why in my stats nerd post replying to Marvin I made reference two or three times to "official" attendances. As us FOCs well know, one of the key tenets of Swalesonomics was the comical understatement of the gate. Was a regular occurrence under old PJS that the attendance would be announced and people would just laugh.

Former City physio Roy Bailey is on Twitter, as I insist on still naming what's now called X. Bailey once claimed on there that City players in the late seventies and early eighties were on a crowd bonus that kicked in for gates that topped 33,000. He said that a suspiciously large number of matches saw an apparently much larger gate declared as between that figure and 32,000. Whoever could have guessed that Swales might be dodgy, eh?!
Funny you should mention crowd bonuses because I started going properly with my dad tbe 2nd division champions year 65/66 but my dad used to llaugh as the players ran out and looked behind them into the stands and hed say they're checking to see how many are in. Mike Summerbee was very big on it! Was never sure whether it was a joke but the crowd bonus must have been real !
