North Stand Construction Discussion

What’s the bland architecture of a building got to do with the running of a football club? They’re completely distinct.

Saying you don’t like a building isn’t moaning.

Architecture is like music or fashion. Some people think some buildings look shite, just like some people think some songs/albums or a style of jumper are shite, while others like them.

I think that hotel looks like a 1950s office block in somewhere like Coventry. Could be a decent stay with good rooms, nice food and good service… yet looks crap from the outside.

If you like it, crack on. I don’t.
Ok
That’s ur opinion, just for Balance and for the record how would u want a 4 star hotel stuck between a football stadium and a concert Arena in inner City Manchester to look ?

Serious question

For the record I like it and I also think when finished ,will look total acceptable for what it is and where it fits in to the campus overall

Let's me honest mate, the vast majority of people don't turn up at a Premier Inn or a Travel
Lodge looking at the building/architecture, and think that looks like a pile of 70', 80's or 90 crap, so I'm not staying there. Most people know what they are going to get from a Premier Inn and a Travel lodge, so are happy to stay there regardless of what the building looks like.

I recently stayed at the Wolverhampton Premier Inn.

The service was good, The room was clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable. The building looked crap.

I'm sure you'll agree with me, the Medlock hotel rooms and service will be 1st class.

Pleased they took the time to match the brick colours….

I don’t think anyone would give a toss about the design of the hotel, if it wasn’t attached to the stadium like an ugly limpet.

Non-regulars polluting the thread/discussion.

And it gets worse.

And it gets worse.
Why? I’ve contributed and read On and off on this thread for years. But that’s beside the point, no-one owns the thread, even the OP. Only Ric and his minions own this.

The thread is North stand expansion, the minutiae that went on about the rake, the supports, the steelwork process was interesting and great… but since the get go , I’ve never liked the hotel sides ( or the hotel/office roof for that matter ). But for both I have no idea what might have been also proposed or could actually be better - I have limited design skills, but I generally have a ‘feel’ for what seems ok.

The asymmetrical arms, was one thing that irked my ocd.

And with my ultra practical head on, with the small sails, it’s going to be a nightmare to clean - you can’t drop down/move a gondola, to get close to the windows/walls

I don't normally stay in a Travel Lodge, I stay in a Airbnb. ;-)

Have any more roof beams been lifted in to place and attached today?

The thing is. There have been plenty of people that have said they don't like the hotel. Or that they think it looks crap. Or anything inbetween.

This has been countered by - moaning fuckers, what do you expect, hotels are shite anyway, as long as the bed is comfortable who cares, etc etc.

But nobody, not one fucking person, not once in 1647 pages and counting, has actually said they actually LIKE the hotel. Not once that I have seen.

Somewhat telling.
I love it because Manchester City have built it and fuck everyone else !!! Goodnight...

Premier Inn for you mate...

Brilliant lol
It's right though, a 350 million pound development that's no where near finished and they 'don't like it' ??? As a City fan to come out with that is embarassing, all the shit we get thrown at us and our own fans...i say that loosely, have a pop ! Well you know what ? Support some other fucking team....

Only a bit on banter…about the drop in post quality;)

Funny to see people taking criticism of the shit looking hotel so personally though

The tvs and food places and everything still look great. The crap looking hotel won't bother me much, my biggest issue is probably that it blocks the view of some of the ground, but with the back of the north stand and the massive tvs and everything it will still be quite the spectacle on match days.

Reminds me a bit of the marriott at piccadilly built in 2007 I think:

And it's a step up above ancoats Travelodge at least:

I love the commitment our owners have shown through this development. Especially in the face of a litigation and media tsunami.

I’ve been on X/Twitter and it’s full of Southstanders sneering about the North Stand and “tourists”. If only more of them could turn up by kickoff to sing for the lads, their opinions would carry more weight.
