North Stand Construction Discussion

I think the stadium would improve even more if they made the spirals indoor with a glass facade . Obviously this would have to be done when the North is complete.
It would also need new roof on East and West that would come further back than the turrets.
This would create a lot more indoor space between the spirals
On cue @Gone for a Burton

The spirals aren't needed anymore with more and more modern stadiums are moving over to escalators, and with the footprint they take up there is decent room for expansion and i hope the East stand expansion is another leap forward in design, as by then the east and CBS will be nearly 30 years old.

East and West stand roofs will be close to 30 years old by the time this happens, maybe due for a replacemnent.

The only time this sort of work is being done is as part of a huge expansion project over a decade down the line.

It wouldn’t be about fixing roofs or changing the look of the stadium, it would be about substantially increasing the capacity of the stadium.

80,000 won't be enough (I think that was where I thought they could get to, years ago when looking at potential E/W stand expansions - surely we'll need something the size of that Billy Smart's Circus Tent planned in Stretford in about 2040?

So it will take even longer to get home after a game with the appalling infrastructure and public transport systems.

I get all excited when I see new posts available in this thread but all of the above posts about the east and west stands would be better in the https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/etihad-campus-stadium-and-collar-site-development-thread.328878 thread. Lets keep this one for drone footage and jrb's photos as well as architectural and engineering geekery.
Not sure the east and west stands are necessarily irrelevant here, or particularly relevant to the collar site.

Well this is North Stand thread and those are East & West, the better thread is that one as it’s campus stadium & collar

after the hotch potch that maine road was turned into the etihad was visually stunning, i hope we arnt slowly going the same way now as the old place now my OCD cant put up with it again
Don't think anyone could ever reach the state of Chelsea. Where you literally cannot find the stadium, because there is a massive hotel in the way.

85000+ was the target capacity.

I think the missing corner terrace sections might be being craned into place?

If the time on the picture is correct, and it was today, when it was posted?

I zoomed in on the original picture. A bit blurred.

The next drone video from CP or SS skies will confirm it or not.

Most likely, there was terracing round by the west stand ready for lifting on my last video. I will get there tomorrow at some point. My boss (me) will let me finish work early.

I'll be there around tea time so will check it out. Fog this morning so no point in going with no visibility as need VLOS on the drone.

What a mess those Chelsea hotels are.

I was watching SSN Hold the Back Pages some time this week and they were discussing stadium expansions and in particular the problems Chelsea are having in trying to expand their ground, or rebuild in another location. Apparently clubs are looking to large stadia to increase match day revenues to beat PSR but Chelsea are restricted by all kinds of planning controls including a historical protected line of sight from Richmond Park to St Pauls and apparently if they built up Stamford Bridge that might break the line of sight. That's just one of many problems.
