I hated the look of that Kippax stand. Saying that, it wasn't as bad looking at the new Platt Lane stand. That was absolutely shocking.
As part of the Forward with Franny movement I was tasked with calling Swales as a concerned City fan. He came on the phone and asked how I got his number, told him from a journalist friend and to be assured that I wouldn't use it again and wouldn't pass it on, and if he want to just hang up which he didn't in fact we had a long chat and it ended with him suggesting we should meet. I lived in Bramhall at the time so, one Saturday morning we met at his shop and went for a walk. Had a long chat, suggested his time was up and that he should give up his fight as it was harming the club. He asked me about the Platt Lane and said that he planned to take the design around onto the Kippax, I was flabbergasted. He was clearly shocked at my suggestion that the Platt Lane was an abomination, he was very proud of it, in fact he asked me where I thought the away fans should go asking me to consult with fellow City fans and give him a call at his office to let him know. I left it a few days and said not on the Kippax as he planned that was the last time I spoke to him as a few weeks later the finally gave in having put his sabotage plans in placeThat Platt Lane stand was the final straw for many of us. I joined the political wing of the Swales Out movement the day after seeing the monstrosity for the first time.
