North Stand Construction Discussion

I hated the look of that Kippax stand. Saying that, it wasn't as bad looking at the new Platt Lane stand. That was absolutely shocking.

That Platt Lane stand was the final straw for many of us. I joined the political wing of the Swales Out movement the day after seeing the monstrosity for the first time.
As part of the Forward with Franny movement I was tasked with calling Swales as a concerned City fan. He came on the phone and asked how I got his number, told him from a journalist friend and to be assured that I wouldn't use it again and wouldn't pass it on, and if he want to just hang up which he didn't in fact we had a long chat and it ended with him suggesting we should meet. I lived in Bramhall at the time so, one Saturday morning we met at his shop and went for a walk. Had a long chat, suggested his time was up and that he should give up his fight as it was harming the club. He asked me about the Platt Lane and said that he planned to take the design around onto the Kippax, I was flabbergasted. He was clearly shocked at my suggestion that the Platt Lane was an abomination, he was very proud of it, in fact he asked me where I thought the away fans should go asking me to consult with fellow City fans and give him a call at his office to let him know. I left it a few days and said not on the Kippax as he planned that was the last time I spoke to him as a few weeks later the finally gave in having put his sabotage plans in place

From the SS Skies video.

Don’t think the screens (old vs new) are too dissimilar in size.

I know there was a poster here a couple of weeks ago who was really angry the screens might not be the same size.

Did a rough estimate based on the north stand screen being roughly half way across each seating block below with the exit being in the middle.

My seat is in that top corner of L3. I will only be able to see the back of the screen and it will also obscure my view of the SS L3 and probably some of L2 also. If Id have been informed by City they were installing a big screen there then I would have looked into relocating either a bit further forward or into the next block so I could see the screen. Needless to say they didn’t contact me.

Can you not just look at the North Stand screens?

Agreed , looks bigger in first instance but the gap into which it sits is much narrower due to the top tier extensions . May well be bigger but not massively tho !

Don't forget the NE corner is missing a few seats on L3 which are in SE (and SW) corners - so for a like for like comparison...

Yes mate but mentioned last week that the drone shots show alot of the blue plastic seats look worn etc?
The seats taken out for the scaffold are stacked below ready for refitting which makes it look untidy , but agreed some seats which may well be 20 +years old do look tatty

That's as maybe, but I haven't seen any dogs patrolling the site on any video.
I wandered down on Sunday afternoon. I glanced through the mesh gate at the north east corner and within 30 seconds was approached by security with a guard dog. I was asked what I was up to and when I told him that I was interested in seeing the build progress he seemed to accept that and left me alone.

That's a great story mate.

I was involved in the Swales out protests. The protests got more and more violent as the they dragged on because Swales refused to sell the club. As you know the protests were taking part during the hooligan period in English football.

TBF to Swales, first and foremost he was a City fan. He loved the club. Nobody can ever take that away from him. He was very fortunate to own the club. Unfortunately he wasn't very good at running the club. In the end he had no choice but to sell the club due the growing pressure from unhappy and angry City fans

RIP, Peter Swales.

I don’t know why but at the bit I highlighted I started hearing the Simon Bates “Our tune” theme.

He wormed his way in as the peace maker in the acrimonious take over attempt by Joe Smith led by Ian Niven who backed Allison supposedly to be the neutral between him and the Alexandras No evidence that he was a blue before that City were just a vehicle to further his own ego and ambitions he was an absolute disaster backed by a number of large share holders, in particular Stephen Boler no one knew why. Greenalls just went with the status quo If he was a City fan he choose a vary strange way in showing it, setting out a strategy to wreck Franny’s takeover and unduly damaging the club which it never recovered from until Sheikh Mansour took over He had 3 executive seats as part of the deal and they were never used.

Swales wasn't a City fan.
