North Stand Construction Discussion

For one of the ricest clubs in the world, and I get there is large scale construction in progress but the perimeter surface is embarassing. I spent more time skipping puddles on Saturday. Needs sorting when North Stand is finished.
Don’t give them ideas they will be charging extra for lake district views from th’otel

Hardly embarrassing, it would be pointless doing it before or during the construction that’s been happening the last few years. If it was to still be left like that after everything is finished then it would be a valid complaint.

I will just leave that there without comment.

It’s designed like that, the only issue I find with the projecting brickwork technique, is that the amateur rock climbers will be able to scale up the wall no problem and get to places their not supposed to go

Bloody hell mate, I was thinking the exact same thing.

You do realize that it’s meant to look like that?

Why?

Do you think it ties in with the North stand redevelopment?

As I have posted previously, if it’s supposed to mimic the Ancosts mills, it doesn’t, because the brickwork of the mills in Ancoats looks nothing like that finish.

One example, Royal Mill, Ancoats.

Agree completely but those were the days of proper tradesmen. In those days brick joints were in the main 5mm , we’d never be able do it on site today , hence the large amounts of prefabricated brick panels (ie the columns either side of city square ) we now see being incorporated in new builds ,on another point do you recall any mills with black mortar ???

As the architect designed it !

That's debatable, genuinely. They are 100% designed it to have projections and irregular protrusions. But whether they designed it to look 'like that' is another matter.

There are plenty of buildings done with that aesthetic that don't look like they were speed-built. But the choice of brick also doesn't help here, clashes with that type of decorative feature.

Zoomed in pictures do exaggerate flaws, people seeing it in person will have opinions. At scale and when all around it is finished, it will ultimately be fine imho.

It is about 30 yards from entrance B where we enter. I understand projections in bricks and bricks that are laid differently to create a pattern. This bears no relation to anything round it or on other corners of the hotel.

If you saw it in person and had that reaction, I absolutely believe that to be genuine fwiw.

I suspect those that are commenting that its meant to look like that haven't had the 'benefit' of seeing it. There are other examples of ropy brickwork but that is the worst I have seen. Unfortunately it will trouble my OCD every time we go through the turnstiles.

That's why I said i get there is a project in development. Regardless it's been like it is long before the North Stand started!
