North Stand Construction Discussion

As long as you don't look up to where the extensions of South and North stands join the "old" bit of the stadium. Terrible finish, hopefully at some point when work is done to the East/West stand, that's addressed.
Apart from us on the thread, the average City fan and away fan inside the Etihad won’t notice that.

Arsenal Emirates is the nearest comparison. I've been a few times and hated it. Wembley is another similar stadium without warmth and soul.

The Etihad is a different world to Maine Rd and about to get even better.
As the old saying goes "It's the inside that counts"

Agreed, although the N and S stand developments have added the "character" that new stadia are criticised for lacking. Taking all into account, is there a better stadium for fans watching football?

I totally agree with you. The SS and NS expansions have externally and more importantly internally added character to the Etihad stadium.

In comparison I find Arsenal’s, Emirates, stadium pretty boring externally and internally compared to the Etihad stadium. Externally it looks similar to Wembley stadium without the arch.

Just back from the Etihad, weather not as good as last week but there has been progress. Video here

They are accepting bookings for the hotel from 1 Oct this year. There are only 142 working days between 11 March and 1 October 2026, accounting for weekends and public holidays.
@jrb That deadline looks 'very challenging'. Is it me ? or it's going to be an amazing transformation in that time frame?... fyi I have 0 zero construction knowledge...

Room fit out is well underway. Some rooms are complete other than fixtures and fittings.

Remember, the hotel only needs to partially open that date if necessary.

Thing is we have no idea how far advanced they are inside, as that's not visible. The outside, that certainly looks doable if they are flying internally, give or take work to the terraces yet to meaningfully progress.

Because of where the hotel entrance is, i.e not onto Medlock Square but at the opposite end, and also because the ground floor units are separate, it means the hotel can fully function and be safely accessed, while works continue to these units, the square, the office building etc.

So yeah, quite doable to be opened for October, depending on where they are inside. Bear in mind also the original timeframe was early summer for the hotel, so they will have allowed some bounce no doubt.

Edit, just seen wolfie's post above, similar point and note on where they likely are internally.

It will open well before the 1st October.

Emirates is a fantastic stadium, far from boring.

I hope their are long term plans to lift up the 4 join areas of the roof where the new North & South stands have been added to the original stadium. It would create a few hundred more seats as well.

Just watched the ss skies latest video.

@HelloCity, the front row (behind the hoarding) seats are almost all in and none of them are padded? I'd just come to terms with that as well, lol.

I see Madrid are closing the roof again tonight. I know this has been probably asked to death, but why couldn’t we have put a roof on??

Do you not think there are 3 rows right behind the hoarding that we can’t see yet ???

That’s matter of opinion. It doesn’t excite me one bit. Not when you compare it to other great and interesting football stadiums in the World. Arsenal are increasing the Emirates capacity, so that might make the stadium look more exciting outside and inside.
