Not from Manchester, Not from the Uk, and I am a City Fan

Hey, uh.. well, I've just got interested in football about a year ago... (in the semifinal against United I think...) and I asked my friend "Hey, who do you think would win?" he answered "Man Utd of course! GGMU!" I've been a city fan ever since that moment. Am I in the gloryhunter category?

P.S. I'm an Indonesian, and here, we're actually bigger fans of European Football than our own (Cuz of the F*cked up Indonesian FA) except the National Team of course.

I've posted before about how and why I started supporting City - over 20 years ago. I'm born and bred in Donegal, but I do have a very small link to Manchester. See this link which the local paper in Donegal done with me yesterday.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.donegaldemocrat.ie/sport/local-sport/fans-delight-at-city-win-1-3847428" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.donegaldemocrat.ie/sport/loc ... -1-3847428</a>

My mum also lived in Moss Side for a short while as did an Aunt of mine. My Uncle (who is referred to in that link) still lives in Moss Side.

The way it worked for me was - I started following when Dzeko got here (I am his big fan - so let's get that bit out of the way first).

But then this bloody team grew on me, with the likes of Komps, Zaba, Richards, Aguero, Nasri, Yaya...great freakin bunch...not to mention the club's history, title drought, rivalry with rags, management...and mostly - THE FANS (including nutcases on this forum :-)).

This is a very likeable f-ing team. End of. Nothing wrong with that.

So to me it is not about Edin (although he is responsible for my original interest) - City is my favorite foreign team now (not in EPL, but in general) and I want them to succeed. I watched every single game this season, Dzeko or no Dzeko...it's just - different (never gave a shit about Wolfsburg, for example, even when Edin played there)...THIS TEAM is CONTAGIOUS.

P.S. foreign fans understand we cant compare to true fans from Manchester - but that doesnt mean we shouldnt root for City.

This also applies to me. Although, I did care about Wolfsburg and still do, just because of Dzeko and Misimovic.
And in most cases I totally agree with what EF says :)

What attracted you to my club?
And when?

simple, i started supporting city since mancini joined. i knew city was going to be a big club, and i wanted to follow the transformation it was going through, and in time i became a big fan like any other city fan in this forum. in tokyo, i stay up until very late at night alone just to watch city games. And i am very very happy and excited to see what city has been able to achieve so far.

Welcome on board, its a very big family which is growing all the time. Enjoy every moment.

You know what's funny about fans like you? You chose to support a club for whatever reason but it is almost invariably results in you supporting a top club. I've never known someone who lives abroad that has been led to supporting a Accrington type club. In fact it is very rarely even a low premiership club. You can say you chose City for whatever reason but the fact is that you're using that reason as an excuse to attach yourself towards them.

Please don't refer to yourself as a supporter. It is an insult to everything our proud club has stood for over generations and it pains me to see the continued devaluation that people like you give to the word supporter.

Wow.. just wow. Without international support city would be kicked out of the champions league or not be able to spend enough to compete.. Chelsea united would continue for years to come.. you like that idea? I bet you do for your own selfish pride... I somehow think 90% of Manchester city locals would not like your stance.

You know what, I would welcome rewinding 12 years. As pleased as it makes me feel to see City sitting at the top with one game remaining my best memories will always be before the takeover. I've never felt further away from the club than I have this season. I'd take "We never win at home and we never win away"
every time over "We score when we want", one of the most shameful, rag-like chants to have ever come from our support.

Call it whatever you want, selfish pride, stupidity, I couldn't care less. The most cherished moment of following the blues was those seasons where we had true supporters all singing through the driving rain and wind whilst watching abysmal football.

Is that you Colin? Colin Shindler?

I can see both sides to this. Became a fan in late seventies because of Peter Barnes. Live in UK but never within 250 miles of Manchester. Have got to as many games as I can justify with expense. Very lucky to have been at Maine Road when Kinkladze scored that goal against southampton, but have been to a few cold, wet midweek games as well. Actually felt gulty that I had managed to get a ticket for the Gillingham game at Wembley (no I didn't leave early)

So what type of fan does that make me? Read this site every day as love all things Blue but almost never post due to potential 'credibility checks' that need to be passed before you are accepted by a small minority

I have said many times in last few years that I am uncomfortable with recent success as being a southerner now seems to put me in the 'plastic/glory hunter' category. Don't get me wrong, Sunday was one of the best days of my life but it often felt better declaring your loyalty to City when we were shit

Pastyman, I too am a southern blue. I have supported the team since I got into football in 1970. For 38 of the 42 years I have supported City, people simply asked me why. My answer then is the same as my answer now, I liked Franny Lee.

When people give me grief about City's new found success, I just explain I have had 30 odd years of winning nowt, of relegations, crap football etc and still got to as many games as I could. I am now going to enjoy us winning. So my suggestion to you is just to explain your City heritage and take no notice of any negativity.

Another thing I will say is that I have plenty of Manc mates who are Blues. If anything they have always admired my support because I chose them when I didn't have to. For me it isn't about where you come from, it is whether you are a real football fan first and foremost and whether you genuinely love City.

Footnote: I actually ended up marrying a Manc. And joy over joy, her and her family are blues. Needless to say our kids are blues and have been since we were in Div 2/3.

From east coast of Canada

Started following the PL when my 12 year old son started getting serious about football 4 years ago.

Was nuetral at first but became an admirer of Silva and Mancini. Couldn't stand Rooney and Ferguson in particular so I was drawn to City.

Over the last 3 seasons I found myself cheering for them more and more and decided I really wasn't nuetral anymore.

Hope no one thinks I am a gloryhound.
