It is virtually non-existent in the States, but then so is good driving.
I was literally almost in a 4 car pile up on my way to the airport tonight when a brand new jacked up Ford Bronco didn’t follow the lines during a turn at the traffic light! She clearly didn’t know where she was going (which is often the case at the airport) but she cut across two lanes in the turn causing numerous vehicles to take evasive action. I was one that was driven out wide, but managed to stay on the road, but then the big new white AMG Merc SUV behind me then proceeded to try to stop me getting back into my lane.
I pulled up alongside her at the next light, indicated to roll down the window. She did and I asked her if she was lost, because not only was she in the taxi lane about to turn into the taxi holding area, but she just cut across all the turn lanes marked at the light and almost caused an accident!
She was deeply apologetic and told me where she was trying to go. I explained she needed to do a U turn and go back thru the light in the other direction. Being in uniform helped, because she was entirely non aggressive towards me, as was I with her, but it could easily have been a 4 car accident and she was oblivious to her part in it.
In short, I try hard to be a defensive driver, both for my own sanity and insurance premiums, but the lack of common courtesy is annoying, esp when one goes out of their way to be polite.
Lastly, pro truck drivers in the State are the most courteous drivers on the road, esp when you display good etiquette towards them.
