I was 22 and with my late dad, this game or the Oldham one where we kicked off, can't remember which was the latter was his last away game due to the troubles.

I remember one bloke had a battered tuba. Started playing "those magnificent men" but ran out of puff before the chorus.

2 nil down after 15 i think. Ref can we start again. We were not ready. The away standing was rammed like you would not believe. People tried to get out into the segregation section before somebody died. Both managers coming on the pitch to try to calm it down when it was all about trying to stop people dying. Saved by the Charlton 5 one the following week.

Loads of trouble in those days. Oxford springs to mind as does Birmingham away, in the same week.

I saw it differently - that if they hadn't improved in the 2nd half the fans would've beaten the crap out of them at FT. ;-)

Yeah, reckon you're right, it was the laughing policeman not magnificent men. Time plays tricks on your memory but it was fuckin hilarious at the time.
