As there were high metal fences around the pitch, it surprised me how many Blues got onto the pitch and even as far as far as the dressing room. Simpson had a great second half, scoring two and we almost grabbed a point. Fantastic away support, every blue i know was there. No idea about the book.

I was there, in the paddock at the side, and my abiding memory of the game is the gnome-like figure of Jimmy Sirrell standing in front of the seething mass of City fans in the away end appealing for calm. Whose bright idea was that ?

I remember this match very clearly for a number of reasons

Set off from a cool day in Manchester to what turned out to be a lovely warm sunny day in Nottingham
We got off the train and the police were searching everyone
So as we’re all bunching together to get funnelled through the search, there was a knife on the ground being kicked about
Eventually got through the search and were waiting for the police to escort us to the ground
My mate said “fuck this, come on” and walked through the police lines. Myself and another mate followed and we walked to a local pub with no hassle

As for the match, the first half was a disaster
I was stood at the back behind the goal next to a copper when Fashanu broke the offside trap and was bearing down on goal. The copper said “ oh it’s Fashanu. He won’t score” and he didn’t and he went on to miss god knows how many other sitters

As I said , it was a lovely sunny day and at 3-0 I looked behind me and there were City fans lay down sunbathing

The half time pitch invasion was really weird. I could see something happening down the side and thought nothing of it until a few fans got on the pitch then the horses appeared from literally nowhere and started rampaging across the pitch
I was certain that if the players had come out, the pitch invasion wouldn’t have happened

I really don’t know what changed in the second half, but it was a total reversal of the first, with the exception being we only scored two

My memories of this day apart from the scoreline and pitch invasion were being stuck in traffic on the M1 behind a minibus and the doors flinging open before 3 blues dressed as gladiators jumped out and having a swordfight with wooden swords ! Oh and a tannoy call for the Notts County groundsman a Bill Pitchfork to help repair the fences ! Despite the result a top day.

I will always remain convinced in my own head that the second half of this game was fixed.....let City score 2 goals and that way there'll be no more trouble.

I was about 15. There were lads working on undoing the metal ties on the fences as the goals went in!
The HT announcement was hilarious and basically said invade the pitch and it'll be called off!

Always thought the second half was rigged to keep fans behind the fences. At 3-2 we weren't gonna invade again.
If I remember rightly Simmo had a great chance late on to equalise and put it wide/over!

Went to school the next day and got a bollocking of a Chemistry teacher who said "You should be ashamed of myself!"
Errrrr I didn't go on the pitch dick'ead! I watched it and thought it was great entertainment!
