Oasis reunion

Musicians are not like footballers. Musicians are far better in their 50's than they are in their 20's.
They might be less creative in the studio. But, from a live perspective, after 35 years experience, they generally put on a better show.
That’s bollocks if you look at Morrissey / The Smiths back in the 80’s / early 90’s compared to now!
Morrissey puts on a great show - but half of his tour is cancelled !

I can only go off my experience.
Stone Roses were better live at Heaton Park than they were at the Apollo in 95
New Order are far better live now than when I seen them in the 90's. That's even with no Hooky. Depeche Mode are a far better live now than when I seen them at their peak in the 90's. That's when they had Alan Wilder. The list goes on and on. It's the same for James, The Charlatans and so on.
You're looking back through rose tinted glasses, back to a time when you were young and you have cherised those moments.
But, if musicians play for multiple hours every single day, for 35 years, they get a lot better. They perfect their stage routine and put on a better show. They have better gear. It might not have the edge and vitality they gad when playing in the Hac, 40 years ago. But, they are better musicians. There is absolutely no reason why Oasis can't put on better performances now than they did at Maine Rd or Knebworth.
As for your Morrissey comment. The Smiths don't play together. Morrissey is not going to be better than the Smiths. Johnny Marr is a once in a lifetime guitarist, a generational talent. I guarantee you now that Johhny Marr is a far better musician now that he was 40 years ago.

Seen them about 20 times, tiny venues like the apollo 2k wolverhampton 1300 max, Watford coliseum 800 capacity. Barcelona, Amsterdam and across Europe. Numerous stadium gigs. That might have been the most enjoyable gig tonight, watching with my best mate and close family was quality. Loads of groups that were similar singing their hearts out was unreal.
loved oasis since the 90s And Can’t believe that the comeback is so big and that’s knowing they were huge anyway.
So many kids including mine are just wanting to experience what we did.
The haters can moan all they want but oasis are back big time

Ha! I was being sarky on the Morrissey cancellations comments (even bitter considering my experiences of 12 cancellations!)

Although I think one thing to mention is the rawness of bands that made them so exciting.
I first saw James in 1985 (supporting The Smiths as it happens) and 5 times before 1990 and many, many times since including last October in Boston and yes they are a bigger band (musician wise) and way more polished but it’s that initial rawness that they had that gave them that initial edginess and excitement that is missing.
You mention Depeche Mode from the 90’s but not 82-86 when at their most commercial. Same with The Charlatans - yes they can be seen today and of course minus two original members, but that spunkiness that they had isn’t there as it is too polished (not a complaint, an observation)
And for every Charlatans and James there’s a Happy Mondays flogging the dead horse.

Now I love New Order and have seen them many times both with and without Hooky and his absence hasn’t been the main talking point at the gigs - Barney’s “dancing like the sad uncle at the wedding” has marred the gigs more than Hooky’s absence lol

I didn’t see any Roses comeback gigs but I did see them at Blackpool (brilliant) in 89 and Spike Island (don’t believe the hype) in 90 and that was enough for me. Yet you say the comeback gigs were better than the 95 Apollo gig, missing out 87-90 completely.
Was Ian Brown’s voice sounding better in the late 1980’s in The International 2 than it was in the 2010’s at City’s ground or Heaton Park?

Can’t wait for tonight’s gig, going with my wife & 2 daughters. First time for the girls to see Oasis, we also got lucky in the draw for the front section tickets. Me & the Mrs went to Maine Road gig in 96 just a few weeks before we got married. Going to be a wonderwall day!

"Biblical". They were that good that this pair of morons left early whilst the gig was still going on. Waste of tickets.

I leave every football match and gig early nowadays, nothing is worth staying a few extra minutes for the extra 1-2 hours it takes to get out of a venue nowadays.

also helps I've never really rated Supernova.

First tour Oasis have played since 2009 and this couple are in their 20s. You should be making the most of the night rather than acting like an old fart.

It's because us parents, who are now in our fifties, brought our kids up right - City & Oasis!!

My daughter, who is 30, is a Blue and could probably sing every lyric to 90% of all Oasis songs

I'm a proud dad!!

My lad got two tickets for Wembley. I said " great you and your missus will love it"
My lad said " you got me into Oasis and City I'm taking you " mint !!

suppose in my 20's i prob would have done.
nothing worse now a bit older, herded out like sheep, stop/start signs, crushed and crawling when had i left few mins earlier all could have been avoided.

That aside ... anyone there last night leave at the end and was ok to get out ?

Ha! Have you ever been on The Smiths / Morrissey thread?
@jimharri has 154,000 posts - 153,408 of them in the Smiths & Morrissey thread slagging the greatest living Mancunian off!

I haven't mate, because I'm not that interested in The Smiths (sorry) so I don't read the thread and I definitely don't go in it to tell everyone that either haha.

I did not see the Roses at that time as I was born in 79. It was 94 or 95 when I first seen them. Reni had left.
The voice is the key thing as that will go, especially with all the drugs and smoking. That's why Dave Gahan had singing lessons in his 40's and 50's. I would be shocked if Liam has not been seeing a vocal coach.
My initial reply was to the poster who said people should have gone back in the day. I don't understand why. There is absolutely no reason for Oasis not to put on a better performance now, than in their apparent prime. Last time I seen them at Heaton Park, they were shite. My mate went last night and he said it was glorious.
There is far too much negativity in this thread. People saying it will not be the same, it was better in my day. My ethos has always been 'if today is not your day, you might as well be dead'.
There are loads of people complaining about people recording stuff on their phones, as if they have a right to dictate how people enjoy themselves.
Now I went to Knebworth and there was not a single camera phone in sight. Now, I really wish that I had a phone back then as half the people I went with are now dead. I have fading memories of that gig. In fact that are more emotions and feelings rather that definitive memories. I would love to have some recordings of the shenanigans as my memories are only going to fade further.
As for Depeche Mode, SOFAD was their creative peak. Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Violator and then SOFAD was the golden run. If Depeche Mode had carried on in the same Vince Clark vein, they would have not made it to the 90's.

Not sure if you are joking or not . I like most of his stuff. I've seen some absolute shit on the tv about oasis myths. I even saw some crap about a bridge that casts no shadow. That song is about Ashcroft and he is extremely talented.
Fuck him.
First of all Richard, why United?
“That’s a really good question. I come from such a hybrid area. Skelmersdale, built near to where I was brought up, was a new town for Liverpool. So there was a real mixture of football supporters at school. There were United fans, and Liverpool and Everton fans whose families had moved from Liverpool to Skelmersdale. But essentially it was an old friend of mine. There was a family who lived across the road who used to go to watch United. They took me to my first match when I was about 10 or 11.”
