Obama

Why would the POTUS have anything other than a surface understanding of the great british people? Maybe he considered them sensible ;-).

Perhaps the POTUS needs to have more than a surface understanding of any people before he pokes his nose in? That lack of knowledge has backfired on several US presidents in relatively recent history. Obama is not different in that respect.

I do wonder how much he regrets making that speech at that journalists dinner where he royally took the piss out of Trump.

I think Trump coveted the office anyway, so it probably didn’t make any difference, but there’s no doubt it fuelled the fire to some extent.
He has no sense of humour and is very thin skinned. Fair to say he has harboured a personal grudge at being publicly teased

He may have regretted it initially, but when you consider how Trump has systematically desecrated the Office of the President of the United States since he took over then he's probably not regretting it any more.

Im sure that isnt right just because of the magnitude of what the personal grudge has brought about. Climate change is probably the best example. Obama did make genuine strides to address it, which is very rare for any leader to do. It is of critical importance to everyone on earth. Trump has ripped it all up and goes after every major policy he initiated including Obamacare.

I think you misapprehend the reason for my suggested regret.

How I yearn for the days a political scandal was an politician found dead in woman's knickers and gagged with an orange.

I suspect Trump would have done the exact same to ANY President who had been in office prior to him. The entire point of his candidacy was that all of Washington and all elected representatives in power prior to him were the enemies of change and that he -- and only he -- could fix the enormous problems "they" had created. Even the distinctions between Republicans and Democrats don't matter much. Trump bears a grudge against anyone who doesn't demonstrate absolute loyalty and fealty to him. He's only been like this for 30 years.

He left the economy in a way better state than he inherited. He stopped two conflicts in iraq and afghanistan. He made incremental improvements in healthcare but you are right in that his delivery did not match his oratory. That was pretty much down to the make up of politics during the time he was president. He admits himself that he didnt get Syria right. I dont agree that a President is only judged by his achievements - look at JFK. They are also judged on the legacy of their presidency and as I said, his will be remembered for the grace, 'they go low, we go high' nature of his office.
And killed bin laden
