Offical Election thread

Interesting to read some comments on here squealing at the injustice of gordon becoming PM after Phony B.liar was ousted from the leader of the Tory lite / New Liebour /New Labour party.
I cannot understand why they didnt do the honourable thing of calling for a general Election at that time in the same way as the tories did when Mr Grey Major took over from Maggie.

Oh wait.....................

Put me in the same boat there.

In fact, I would imagine that there are a large number of Libertarians who won't actually know that they are Libertarians as it doesn't really fit into the traditional left-right spectrum.

Though there are different strands of libertarianism; libertarianism of the left with libertarian socialism and anarcho-syndicalism and then libertarianism of the right with anarcho-capitalism.

I have never met a libertarian socialist, by there very nature they want to control and regulate and generally interfere in peoples life.

I don't vote LibDem but the fact they get almost 25% of the vote but around 7/8% of the MP's tells you everything you need to know about our so-called democracy. The Tories and Labour of course get more % of seats than their % of the vote at their expense.

They have rigged it this way and firmed it up by tweaking electoral boundaries to ensure the status quo.

It is rigged, unfair and undemocratic beyond belief.

I am really glad we have a hung parliament and that electoral reform will follow and that we might have summat resembling a genuine democracy at long last.

Also, will we now finally have equality for the English with an English assembly? Like it or not England votes Tory and without the Scottish vote we would already have an overall majority.

These pundits going on about how Scotland and Ireland have PR already to show how it might work in the UK are missing the point. If it works in these 'other countries' then it can work in ours too. That's England though. Lets stop pretending that we are still Great Britain politically speaking. Give the English what the other home nations have got and let the others stand alone or get rid of these additional costly bodies with their preferential national perks at our expense and lets have a single true UK system again.

Fairly safe to say there will be another election within 2 years. However listening to a few friends I know who voted Lib Dem and some of the comments within the media any deal with the tories could well hurt the partys vote. If Lib Dem voters vote tactically in high enough numbers and vote Labour like here in Chester where the tory got in with a 1500 majority then we could see a Blairesque landslide

It really does depend, Lib Dems are split between so called Social Democrats and the Old Orange Book Liberals, in many parts of the country particularly in the south they are the only opposition as Labour has ceased to exist apart from being a fringe party, many Lib Dems in the South would never consider voting for Labour, as they are more right of centre, so it would all balance out.
