"A deal could be concluded by the end of next week when Eto'o returns from the U.S."

FFS! Another 1000 page thread it is.

HOW RELIABLE IS 'SPORT' ?? Everyone seems fairly confident this is nearlly done now??

Sport.co.uk is slightly less reliable than my 89-year-old, senile Nan's bladder.

Never ending Eto’o saga nears happy conclusion

This doesn't really make any sense. What has the asking price got to do with anything in terms of the deal being held up?

Say Barca want 20 mil for eto'o we give them 25 mil then they pay eto'o with some of the money we give them.

The article says they are lowering their asking price

Yes, so that we are cushioned a bit for having to pay Eto's loyalty money.
Barc can't be seen to be publicly paying it themselves.

all i can think of is that sammy's loyalty bonus is a percentage of transfer fee therefore by Barca dropping asking price the bonus goes down but we add it on the fee so they can pay it straight to sammy.

It will be in his barca contract that he gets x ammount for a loyalty bonus

If we added the fee then the transfer money would go up though, and by all accounts he's due half of whatever Barca receive, not what they ask for.

Barca need to lower the asking price so that Eto'o's cut in proportion is smaller, we will then make up the difference by paying Eto's's loyalty payment for Barca meaning we ain't out of pocket, Barca ain't out of pocket but Eto'o is for being a greedy shit.

But Eto still gets the loyalty payment, surely (albeit in a way that saves Barca's blushes).

he gets a smaller loyalty payment because they loyalty payment is a percentage of the transfer fee. Lower transfer fee means smaller cut.

It better had be done by next week, I get married next Saturday then go away for 2 weeks and the missus has banned all football and transfer talk on the wedding day!!!

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

If Barca asked for more then we might/should walk away, they want to sell him to fund the proposed Villa move so if they then lower the price for eto'o to say £18 million but we pay £25 million then 7 would go to eto'o, technically we pay the same but the asking price for eto'o would be lower.
