Official - City end interest in Eto'o [merged]

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Not a chance Milan will win the Champs league, can't even see any Italian team winning it for a good few years to be honest.

Milan will be nowhere near winning the chumps league and I'm confident the rags won't get near the final either. Will have to wait and see who they both sign first yet, though

THIS ^^^^ id put my house on it that its gonna be a Barca vs Madrid final and they will basically tear everyone apart leading up to that.

In the mail now ..

Samuel Eto'o has told Barcelona he will quit the club this summer.
But the Cameroon striker will wait to see if Manchester United or AC Milan make an approach before accepting Manchester City's offer to make him the best-paid player in the world.

The 28-year-old has rejected Barcelona's offer of a two-year contract extension and has decided to leave now rather than at the end of his current deal next summer.

Have yernited actually said they're in for him .. not that either of the other 2 could afford him ..

Great move by City as at least we will know one way or the other whether he is going to come to us, and if not will be gutted, but at least we can move on and look else where.

I am wondering though if this does not come off, how our woner's will view Gary Cook's lack of ability to close these deals ?
cant blame cook if it goes tits up,its like selling a house that hasn't been built, its quite clear that with the mentioned signings we were or are going for top 4,so what a step down = top 6 and another year to wait for 4th,no big deal really

Agreed I personally feel that we are trying to miss a stage out of our development as well, however if this is the Strategy that our Owner's have come up with and put Cook in charge of over seeing it, then all I am saying is that he will be accountable for not delivering the Starategy.

The strategy may be flawed and GC cannot be blamed if it turns out that way.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. But we do lose time to sign a quality alternative so good move by City and fingers crossed he does an impression of the man from Del Monte.

Signing off: Samuel Eto'o has played his last game for Barcelona
His agent Josep Maria Mesalles yesterday held talks at the Nou Camp with the European champions' technical secretary Txiki Begeristain.
After ruling out the option of the contract extension - half-heartedly offered by Barca director of football Raul Sanllehi without a pay rise - Mesalles discussed the possibility of Eto'o sitting out the final year of his contract.
But the Catalans are desperate to cash in now rather than lose him for nothing and both sides are so divided that Eto'o has decided to leave now, according to Barcelona-based newspaper Sport.

Hold on... that can't be right, if he tells Barcelona he will quit, then the loyalty bonus that is holding everything up, goes straight out of the window.

The mail making things up again!?

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Maybe he realises they aint gonna give it to him? Either way this will be concluded soon, NO other club will offer what we have so if we have said make your mind up or we move on then we can expect Sammy to be squirming a bit and a decision soon. Weve been at him for months surely hes made his mind up.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

I think even the 24 hour deadline is a bit soft, if the guy is looking for a 'better' offer then he's obviously not genuinely interested in playing for city, in which case we shouldn't sign him.
