Wasn't he out of contract? He was in the released players list.. no I think no fee then.

Wasn't he out of contract? He was in the released players list.. no I think no fee then.
Maybe no 'fee' as such but if he was an academy player wouldn't we be due compensation?

Maybe he'll get a good run out in the prem next year, I don't think we'd be entitled to any compensation as we agreed to let him go. Compensation I thought was if for instance when a player agreed to move elsewhere when still in contract from their current club or not having their contract terminated by release.

Yeah, you can't sign youth players up to lengthy contracts so, even if they leave at the end of a deal, you're still entitled to some form of compensation, either agreed between the two clubs, or else via a tribunal, like in Sturridge's case.
