After the impressive start in the Premier League, Bayern Munich came just right as the right test. It was the absolute top match of the Champions League matchday and the first clash between two top teams.
Roberto Mancini wanted to play with our established system, 4-2-2-2. Where the roles of our Strikers and attacking Midfield occur/look unorthodox. Dzeko and Aguero played on the front line in the Premier League so that Dzeko acted behind Aguero and played well defensively, he took over the vertical tasks while Aguero was responsible for the horizontal. For some reason Sergio was not interessed into defending at all and was having a inside battle with hes own Energy-managerment. Both strikers took few times a break in the game, which infected our mental strenght.
Behind the two strikers again Samir Nasri and David Silva were used, which is an uncommon act in the league but also very effective. The two nominal wingers play very central - double playmakers, in particular David Silva fetches a lot of balls in front of own defense and made the game from the depths as well as in the last third. Most of the Munich attacks (46%) were outplayed on their left-side by Lahm and Ribery. Silva improved in the second Half, but our tactical problem can be reduced on these two names. While Nasri on the big European stage didnt show any kind of performance, David Silva wanted to work but was not serious enough to make an better impression. The world and european champion neglected sometimes his defensive work, acted far too centralized and did try do make magic rather than the simple pass. Apart from a few approaches he didnt prove his world class. Although Samir was more disciplined, but could not play hes game and was invisible in the important Moments. Clichy and Richards had to provide the needed width, but both had little success. Clichy has been anyway relieved by Nasri who played later more wide. Richards' caution was due to Ribery, the former Olimpique Marseille Star bound him either behind or persecuted him far into his own half and was very good in the defence. I can't say enough how annoyed I am that we hold on to the ball so much without passing. I'm even more annoyed when we have opportunity to cross into the box for Dzeko and Aguero but don't because we hesitate or pass back to the middle. Too much hesitation and too slow to build up the attack. They need to play more freely and openly like they did against Tottenham. Holding onto the ball too much played into Bayeren's hands. The German teams are the best at quick counterattacks and limit the dribbling to a minimum.

I was saying Bobby was a great mental nd emotional Coach but criticized his gameplan. Now, after the Spurs game i m impressed. Here s my explation why.
The Team came with a very unorthodox system, a 4-2-2-2. The Wingers acted at the center rather than classical 10s. Although, they often drifted to the outside, but mostly they was active at the half left and half right positions - like double 10s. While the fullbacks Zabaleta and Clichy acted very aggressively and procured the necessary width. Edin played schematically a little higher than Sergio. Toure and Barry formed our double six.
From the start we was stronger and offered to Tottenham rarely space. We were physically and technically superior to the game and played absolutely sovereign. Tottenham tried with two skilled game makers to act on the double six, but this attempt failed badly. I think in the modern Football, space in front of the back four is a death sentence. The lack of balance at the double six rans into a humiliation. Kranjcar could never really secure Modric and his positional play was poor. He played more or less on a parallel line with Modric and left too much space between the lines, what Nasri and Silva mercilessly exploited.
Mancinis newest Coup - Double Playmakers. This principle of two Playmakers could be seen side by side in a different form than the 4-1-4-1. Supported and protected by a double-six, from forwards nd agile fullbacks, Nasri and Silva had a free role. The two sprang up everywhere on the pitch and controlled the pace of the game together. Due to the loose arrangement on central positions, they didnt ave to deal with Tottenhams D6 that much. They key here was Yaya Toure in combo with Barry. Hes now slowly but surely pushed back into the role of sixes, which he perform excellently. Yaya has limited his trips into the box. He serves mainly as a safe pass station? on the offensive and did high Pressing on the ball leaders. Yaya took a little break at the 63 - 70 mins and Spurs intermediatly won more room nd control. Gareth made our System flexible. Extra praise to Barry who played many good opening passes.

Conclusion - In a wonderful football game Mancini managed to make a setup which put our strong performance, individually and collectively, on the upper hand. Deserved 5-1 away win. Our Team had from the beginning the game under control and took at the end 59% ball possession,the advantage of Spurs offesive Double Six. @arry, in case you missed it, that was Robertos Response. On the pitch.

Their passing pattern's very simple but superbly effective.
I'd say they keep the ball even better than Barcelona, only not as entertaining.
Like Toure said, a good lesson about simple football.
I hope De Jong, Razak and Hagreaves will give us that simplicity and rockiness. Boyata has a calming influence too, when he comes back next season.
This present team has too much flair I'm afraid.
