Big fan of the Japanese referee, I've seen him before and he's excellent. No messing about, doesn't get carried away and is pretty moderate. Just a shame we can't bring foreign refs to the PL to replace the shite we get stuck with

Our refs are the best in Europe apart from the odd exceptions like Rozzoli. Our refs let the games flow so much more. In the CL they are far too whistle happy. The games are pretty much all worse to watch than a good Prem game because they're just stop-start-stop....stop....stop...opposition want the ball kicked out so the ref makes the team in possession do it...stop-start-stop. A bit of football breaks out on rare occasions.

I agree that I don't like the way European referees actually (over)referee the games, but the amount of just terrible decisions the english referees make is just shocking.

There's certainly something up with you. A month of football to enjoy with no pressure and no stress. Some of the world greatest players and 31 sets of players and fans who would die for the shirt they play for (and then England whose fans are so boring and bitter and players are so dull they don't really give a shit!). But it's going to be a great month! How can you not enjoy what's going to be on show here.

Don't judge this game, there are going to be far better sides than these two tonight!

Yeah, I remember him at the last World Cup, he is good. Its a shame that referees from "smaller" (Not the best word, but you know what I mean) countries, get stigmatized, simply because the league they referee in isn't as strong as the big European leagues. At the last World Cup, one of the best referees was from Uzbekistan. A crap referee, is a crap referee, and a good one is a good one, it doesn't matter where they're from.

Exactly. I amazed it's not illegal to not have foreign referees? Surely it's a restraint of trade to force people to referee in their own country? Especially given that the vast majority of countries don't have fully professional referees

He has a point, to be fair. There isn't a weekend went by last season when there wasn't a major talking point caused by a refereeing decision. They are poor, there's no escaping the fact.
