Offside judgement (Laporte v Wolves)

Read a few pages of this thread, don't fall out with each other boys and girls this joke of a system isn't worth the trouble.

I don't know why, and apologies if anybody has already said this, why not simply use foot position to determine offside or not, we are paying football after all. Armpit or tshirt line ball hahaha.

But again, if it is for determining a handball offence (ie what can and can’t be used to play the ball) it also HAS to be used for determining offside as only parts of the body that can play the ball are considered.

Did you read the PL article with Chris Foy explaining it?
I have been following the argument in this thread closely and must confess I am still somewhat confused. Now it is not in anyway important that Father Paul is in this state of mind but what is concerning is that refs the world over must also be suffering from varying levels of bewilderment.

There are two types of people: those that can extrapolate from incomplete data.

It seems like you're the second one mate.
I'm a mathematician. So i cannot assume anything unless i read it. :)

IFAB has a clear ambiguity in this if the rule is indeed as SWP says it, as per Chris Foy also, in that article....

Well i surely understand the reasoning about this yes, i just want to see IFAB stating it clearly, since current rule is ambiguous if this holds.

I've never understood why the Refs attribute such a level of accuracy to the system. With the frame rate of the video feed and the speed that the ball/player is travelling, there has to be at least a few cm of inaccuracy inherent in what they can see on the screen. They should factor that in and give the advantage to the attacking player if the offside isn't more than that degree of uncertainty.

And this isn't a City thing - there have been plenty of similar instances with other teams.

It’s new, you’ve got to start somewhere, there’s always the possibility to build in a margin of error next season if that’s the consensus. To be honest, I’m fine with how it works now as long as the same system is consistently applied.

I have to say I’ve preferred its implementation this season. Liverpool have been on the end of a couple of shockers, as have United (once against Chelsea). That for me shows they’re doing their best as opposed to working towards fucking City.
