I still don't think City have faced anywhere near as much resentment as Chelski. Might be different in Manchester, but in the rest of the country definitely not. There are plenty of reasons why.
- City were always quite well liked by neutrals. Chelsea were always an ugly club (hooliganism, racism, crap stadium,Ken Bates etc)
-People remember that City fans never deserted their club while Chelski had pitifully small attendances in their dark days, and even in the early days of the Premier League
- Chelski were the first club to catapult themselves to the top with petro-dollars. People had seen it all before when Mansour came in
- you share a City with United whom nobody likes
- Apart from that chavvy knob of a Chief Executive (Cook?), City didn't behave as aggressively as Chelski
- no hate figures like Terry or Cashley Hole
- the regular sackings of popular managers
- they played an unattractive style of football for most of the Abramovich era. Thats changed this season, but the perception will remain for a long time.Has any English success in Europe attracted as many snide remarks as their CL ''triumph''? Compare that to the neutral reaction to your title win.
- people know the sheikhs from horse racing
- Abramovich, like all oligarchs, is perceived by many as a criminal.
