Old Maine Road photos thread

That still makes me feel stick to the bottom of my stomach!
Definitely my darkest day as a City fan. The most painful of all our relegations. Actually just watched that for the first time apart from in the stadium on the day. What stands out is the diabolical quality from both sides. Standards have improved so much in the modern era. We are truly spoiled these days.

Was that a night cup match, be late 70s? Was really hairy getting back to the station, rumours Chelsea had turned up. We drew down there, then drew at home, then beat them at the swamp in a second replay I think?
yeah..............Another game where Chelsea turned up late 70's was QPR away on another Tuesday night.

I haven't noticed it before but looking at that picture I find it pretty funny that the old main stand doesn't even cover the full length of the pitch!

2 Fags short of a full packet... Typical City!

Its asymetric, did they run out of money towards the end of building it?
They ran out before they built it

Yesterday I started a new free feature on my website to count down the 100 days to the centenary of Maine Rd’s first game. Each day until that centenary I’ll be posting an image, feature or article on Maine Road. Some of the images are rare and exclusive while some will bring back memories or highlight something long forgotten.

The series started yesterday with this little quiz:

The answers are here:

Day two explains why this design was the way it was:

There will be a new free website post each day so enjoy!

I have a memory that I was with Mad Eyed Screamer at that Luton relegation match. Phillips? Coach from The Red Lion?

Today’s free Maine Road feature is on ‘Commit No Nuisance’:

Enjoy!
