Old Maine Road photos thread

Was that Guy Bernard Manning by any chance, though I think his was an Alsatian :-)

That joke was used in a film about a City striker who got kidnapped. Keith Allen was in it and parking his car when a kid says it to him. Think the line was "can you dog pump up tyres".

Can't remember the name of the film.

Always remember being really excited when we’d get to Maine Road and see the tv vans were there!
We lived in Moss Side and used to walk up to the ground in the morning to see if they were there. If they were we were buzzing as we walked home to mind cars (backed by a variety of threats, apparently).

Just found this which contains some good memories and photos. I see that @GaryJames contributed too

First time I went to Everton was as a kid when we use to stand behind goal, Asa Hartford scored I'm pretty sure but I'd never have picked it out from those floodlights.
First time i went too, remember asa scoring and Latchford scoring for them, think he got 30 that season? Tried to get in City end but told it was full,so payed in street end with my odd ball Everton mate, they were all singing about City taking the park end so obviously not many had the whole end them days! An educational lesson for future trips to goodison!;-)

Fantastic article. Brought back a lot of great memories. Walking through the cental tunnel and the pitch stretching out in front of you. The bovril seeker at the front of the stand. And yes; those toilets.

this really is a thing of beauty

1985.
5-1, Charlton.
I was in the Kippax, top right corner, which was the unofficial singing section of the Kippax.
I fucking loved it up there.
The best days of my life as a City fan.
I was 17 then.

Who on earth was waving a Venezuela flag at half time in the Gene Kelly stand?? Nuts.

Platt Lane that afternoon. Told my mum and dad was at the pictures. Nothing better watching City that day. Mayhem.

Gary hasn't contributed - the guy used some pictures from Gary's "farewell to Maine road" book and credited his name next to each picture .

Even though that picture named " slabs" was took by me!!!

Very proud I was too to have pics in that book, but i always get annoyed that (through no fault of his own) they get credited to Gary - if anyone credits them at all! Unlike music copyright most people don't give a crap who took a photograph. Booo to that!

Anyway, I'm on a ranty mood , sorry, feel too ill to sleep so I'm busy moaning online instead ;)

But yeah, I took that one in 93/94 season. Mum was always very patient while I messed around doing pictures... I miss her so much.

Last day of the old Kippax. I'm sat in the middle with purple and white striped away kit, looking at the camera

Oh wow I'm on a roll here complaining.....!

But that is not the last day of the old kippax, I should know, cos I took the photo!!!!!!

It was the swales out sit down demo in Sept 1993 (after the QPR game.iirc)

I let Gary James use it for his Farewell to Maine road book and it got used in programmes in 2002/03 to advertise his book.

But I took it, sit down swales out demo, Sept 1993.

Used to take my camera everywhere, inc all matches. The days before everyone did!

(Though it's nice to hear that some from the forum are on the photo!)

Curly Watts at the front? ;)

And that guy with the long hair looks like the front of a late eighties album cover.

I can also see American “funny man” Kevin James looking at the camera.
