The Concorde in Burnage and Cine City in Withington, saw many an 80s classic in those.
We were near neighbors... lived in Taunton street just behind Everystreet schooljust about the same year 1973 that i would have been messing about in there lived in padiham avenue next to star avenue
Ones around us in Newton Heath were The Magnet (Old Church St, became a Tesco, now demolished and a Lidl stands there. The Ceylon, Thorp Rd, (now a furniture warehouse) The Playhouse on corner of Oldham and Queen's Rd (demolished) The Fourways in Moston (demolished, houses there) and in Hollinwood, our regular as kids, The Roxy (now also demolished, and just empty ground .... my wife's company, Greene King applied to build a new pub there, but the powers that be Owdam council refused, instead offered land on the edge of Limeside (aka Crimeside) instead .... then also applied for one where the funfair comes near to Housing Units and refused also ... 'kin Biffos ... would give permission for yet another salmonella palace takeaway if asked though ... )
I remember the one on School lane Didsbury, one on Palatine road Northenden, The Forum in Wythenshawe obviously, but the one I feel and always felt most connected to was The Tatton in Gatley, it was my Mams first job selling the ice creams during the intervals when she left school.
Ah, the Tatton. (Forgot the name). Used to go there cos it had a bar and the Scala in Withington didn't.I remember the one on School lane Didsbury, one on Palatine road Northenden, The Forum in Wythenshawe obviously, but the one I feel and always felt most connected to was The Tatton in Gatley, it was my Mams first job selling the ice creams during the intervals when she left school.
Oh yeah ... heard about that too ... I only recall Roxy, Fourways and Playhouse still being open as a kid.
The Palace, Levenshulme. Anything but!
