Old songs

I vaguely remember one from Primary School:

Daisy, Daisy, the coppers are after you
If they catch you, here's what they're going to do
They'll tie you up with wire
Behind a black Maria
So ring your bell, and peddle like hell
On a bicycle made for
2-4-6-8
Who do we appreciate?
City! City!

Don't think this was sung at Maine Road, but it's a long way back and my memory is quite shit.

The Eve of Promotion sung during the 1965-66 season'

This was based on the 1965 Barry McGuire hit: Eve of Destruction.

I can't remember many of the words apart from the chorus:

"But you tell me over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, we don't believe we're on the even of promotion."

the final chorus were:

"But you tell me over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, we DO believe we're on the even of promotion."

That is an Everton song, Grand Old Team.
I'm sure you are right, but back in the day there was no "copyright" on footy songs, or shame related to pinching someone else's. After all, the Kippax did use to sing You'll Never Walk Alone.

The idea that songs are "reserved" for one team is a modern concept.

Talking of Everton reminds me of "You can stick your fucking toffees up your arse." sung at the girls who used to distribute toffees at Everton matches - at one time used to go round Maine Road for the "away" fixture of their team, hence the song.
