Oldham Athletic thread

Will it ever be the right time.to merge some of the old Lancashire clubs? Oldham, bury and Rochdale all had rough times and may all end up with no club, could they not look at a joint venture, Oldham and bury like Brighton and Hove?
Rocholdbury Northside would be my choice of name for them.
Or possibly even Yonners United .

There was talk of merging Bury, Oldham and Rochdale about 25-30 years ago but fans of all three clubs rejected the idea.
With Bury either not having a team or somewhere around division 10, Latics trying to get into National League North and the Dale trying to follow Oldham into non-league, I don't think the prospect of a merger will be very appealing.

Old Bochdale.

It would never happen because these small towns have stubborn pride and would never agree to share an identity with 'that lot'.

I live in Bury, though a native of Manchester, and I cannot overstate how parochial some of our citizens are. Not all, I stress, but a very sizeable and loud minority. I have only to mention the current absurd feud between AFC Bury and Bury (whatever it's called) attempt at being a residual Bury FC. Some of them hate each other at least as much as we hate the Rags, and that's just one town. Suggest a merger with Rochdale and Oldham and they'd have apoplexy.

You can see the same issue in Tameside where there are four or five very small teams. Together they could probably support a league club, but no one ever thinks of it. You've probably got more hope of Rangers and Celtic merging as AFC Glasgow.

This was suggested a few years back. Oldham, Rochdale & Bury to merge as ‘Manchester North End’
I remember that being in the MEN at the time.
But seeing as how none of those 3 teams have anything at all to do with Manchester, they can all get fucked.
Hence my proposal of a merger of names as well as teams.
And they can name a new ground for the new team as Giggspotary Park. LoL.

they will say we are too proud to be merged into one club ? it's our club, we support our local teams.
well, clearly not enough people from them towns do care enough to support them through thick and thin,
they should be going to the games, giving them money for better players and build a future,

Oldham will fall and fall until it's gone ? not just because of the money, but because of the people of Oldham.
not enough of people care about their local football club,

they need help, Bury Oldham Rochdale should think about a merge or become a feeder club to the big teams

It’s ok to fall but survival is the most important & you can still operate if you cut your cloth accordingly & the community goes.

Yet another club fooked over by wank owners about time the FFP went after owners who are clearly in it to make a fast buck ..............
