Just got back from the Church Inn . The pub that's in the middle of Chadderton Hall Park . Had five pints of the Black-Stuff while watching my young son playing on the swings/climbing frame/etc in the pub beer garden .
Was a lovely afternoon/evening .

Was in there myself, around 7pm so must have crossed paths.

You wouldn't have missed him, trust me !

the outskirts (where i live) is lovely

i'm surrounded by hills and a few resy's

i'm guessing he means closer to the yorkshire border, where i am.

Oh yeah thats different, parts of Lees, Chaddy and Shaw, Delph, Dobcross etc are great, I know them all well... I wouldn't class them as Oldham.
I mean Oldham as in Glodwick, Coldhurst, Crimeside, Alt, Holts, Fitton Hill, Coppice etc... sad places inhabited mainly by 3rd generation workshy, thieving inbred fops..

it's a strange place i'll give you that

i live in shaw and the views are beautiful, the walks even better, but the contrast is stark like you say

take glodwick for example. walk through there and the place is a fucking disgrace, but not 2 - 300 yards and it starts to turn again, into lees. lees is a nice place, then of course there is huddersfield which has some views.

the other way (pike view and onwards) is even better - you eventually end up in bronte country

the video/papershop?

wow! i used to go in there when i was a kid - i learnt everything there is to know from the front covers of the adult video section..

as i got older i always imagined him nipping downstairs in the middle of the night to stick one on

bloody hell! you have stirred up some memories there mate!

No mate that was Taylors Video \ Newsagent I think. Next to Taff's Off Licence. THE place to get served at 15!!!!!! I grew up around the corner.

Dawsons was the nightclub....

In its other guises it was Jaspers (depending on how old you are!) Southside, Coolers etc.

I worked there for about 3 years. Best Job I ever had! The owner wasnt very popular in Shaw, but he really was a top bloke.

Dont go out in Shaw too much these days, I've not lived there for a while but all my mates (even those who dont live there) gravitate there for regular nights out. I used to drink in the Duke at the end of Market St quite a lot when I was single & younger!!!!

For the first time I recently went in the King George for a slurp during this fine weather one afternoon . Not a bad gaff , friendly staff/punters and the pint was all right .

Only been a couple of times myself, newly ventured but yeh pretty much same as, will venture down again.

It was Froggies before Flies.

Was it? When it was froggies, what was the Upstairs called? I remember at some stage it changed from a double club into a single bar...

Aphex, did you ever go to any of the City Supporters branches that were in Shaw? Originally at the Duke, then a few years later at the Cartshaft?

Theres a new one sprung up at Heyside Cricket Clube. 1st thur of every month,
I've not been yet, but the guy who's running it (Bing) is a top bloke if you know him.
