What is Pep's system anymore? We don't play the same way we did. We've gone from wingers hugging the touchline on their strong foot, creating width and stretching defences, with full backs coming into midfield for an overload to the opposite, wingers coming inside and full backs attempting (poorly) to give us width. Are we a team that plays 1 pivot or 2 going forward? Not sure where we are heading tactically.
Transition phase, the team is struggling to find it's new identity with new personnel. It happens, rebuild is always tricky. Let it settle, full squad availability and fitness will help us freshen things, last season we didn't really have options, this season it's more about making those additions count. Having a team without David Silva, Kompany, and Fernandinho (because of age and not being regular in midfield) was always going to cause us issues. Those are massive figures to lose. Patience is the only way forward

Excellent post. Too many hot headed comments ignore these points. Too many forget or ignore the fact that, Kompany, Silva, Fernandinho even Sergio were not legends when they came to City, they evolved individually and as a team to become great players. Apart from a grumpy Messi there are no legends available to buy only potentially great players at overblown agent inflated fees. It is sad to see so many live in the fantasy that you can instantly replace half a great team and the disrespect shown towards our evolving team.

But herein lies the problem.

A record signing who needs X,Y and Z to look a decent player.

Remember when the rags used to go on about Pogba needing this that the other to "free him up"?

That's how you sound.
It's a team game, every team put together with players with different qualities, not 11 carbon copies. Almost every great team have players that complement each other, the skillful superstars and the low profile workaholics who enable them, its a matter of getting the right pieces to complete the jigsaw.

Javi Martinez moved to CB

Busquets played with the 2 best midfielders of the last 30 years

Rodris far too slow and immobile to play this system
Martinez played 50 games at centre back for Athletic Bilbao before he moved to Bayern. Busquets played a huge role in enabling those 2 best midfielders as credited by them. Rodri is 24 let's see how good he is in 5 or 6 years time.

Transition is fine as long as the manager his here to oversee it long-term, but I quoted you about Pep's system what is it anymore, you didn't answer that.

That's what I said mate, it is in transition, our system has to be tweaked game to game, so for now it really is 4-2-1-3, almost every week we are changing our lineup to do something different against opposition. Not the 4-3-3 it used to be with David, KDB and Ferna. We need a stable midfield and backline that is reliable week in week out.

The system is rather based on accommodating what we have rather than imposing our style.

False comparison, X y z are important in enabling certain type of players to shield the backline. If you bring a Busquets or Javi Martinez in this side you will see the same issues, understanding the type of player he is here is more important, and Pep knows that. He's trying to do something different, it's just not working, it will click eventually.

Pogba's issue is laziness and work rate fyi, unlocking him was just a meme 2 years ago. He's stuck at United and now no one wants him.

Absolutely deluded.

Of which Rodri is neither.

You're not posting any counter argument aside saying that. Why do you think so? Do you just think unless City find a like for like Fernandinho replacement they'll get put 5 past like Leicester game?

Zinchenko isn't any better than Firpo. But thats not our problem. If not Barcelona fingers crossed he will find another club before the window shuts

Could join Barcelona on loan - Oriol Domenech (reliable source)
Fuck that, if it’s a loan and he wants back to Spain, out to Girona with him. Cheeky fuckers, wanting take him on loan now , then complete the deal for free in 8months... I thought I was still in the Garcia thread. Apologies. I was making reference to Garcia
