Olympiacos (A) - CL | Post-Match Thread

In general we're not scoring enough this season. All our PL wins have been either by a single goal or a two-goal margin with an extremely late 3rd goal. That's a problem, and nothing to do with arrogance. In all three of those situations we're only a defensive mistake (which let's face it, happens often) away from turning three points into one. Today they could have easily snatched a draw at the end, whereas we should have been several goals up at that point.
I can't remember us beating anybody in the league by more than a goal. We have a negative goal difference which is unheard of in recent times. We need to kick on in the coming weeks.

They'll not get an easier game than that, but still failed to finish them off. Should have been five-nil.

1-0 job done, rested two key players, no need to rush Aguero onto the field to rescue the game. Foden played well again, as did Sterling, this time without KDB on the field. We need more players in midfield able to do that without looking to Kevin all the time.

The attack does need to improve and they did tonight I thought, we need more obviously but it's a step in the right direction. The one thing Olypiacos do well is defend, so it was never going to be easy to score. However, I suppose it was the perfect game to test our attack against a park the bus type team, that didn't seem to have the ability to counter with pace. The quality could have been better at times but there were signs of our attack finding their rhythm in that game, the goal was a fast and fluid, team goal. That's exactly what I wanted to see.

It's something to build on in the Burnley game, add in KDB, with the option of Aguero off the bench and I think we can take it up a gear or two.

At the same time, I didn't feel like uncomfortable being 1-0 up either, even when they did start to attack. I generally wouldn't against most teams with our best defence on the field this season. So without jinxing it, I think we're starting to add that trait, which City haven't had for a long time. A solid and confident City defence, can eventually be a platform for the midfield and attack to reach their highs better, when they are back up to speed. Here's hoping anyway.

Against a better team we wouldn't have won that because of our finishing, it was pathetic. 22 shots, 11 on target, 1 fucking goal, i say again pathetic

Finishing was again woeful but I thought it was a much improved performance, albeit against pretty feeble opposition. Much more forward momentum, progressive passing and bad intentions.
No injuries, a few much needed minutes in Serge’s legs and we looked much better stretching the pitch with wide men on their natural sides.
Bernardo also looked much more like his old self, hope he can kick on from here

Agreed the finishing was pathetic so many chances squandered.
We do look livelier around the box with young Philip Foden in the team I hope that Pep starts him on a more regular basis in the premiership.

I’be been out flying and am about to sit down to watch the game, but I thought I’d try to get a read on it here.

Have a feeling I’ll be happy yet frustrated with the result and scoreline, respectively.

One thing that I read was that we once again had over 20 shots in the game. That’s excellent! That a few more didn’t go in is easier to fix!

As long as the lads are starting to have a pop around the box, then the goals will sort themselves out.

Strange old season, but lots still to play for. CL basically done for 3 months, so now we can concentrate on winning our the Carabao Cup, tonking a few teams in the PL before Santa comes, and hopefully keep a fully fit squad!

The future is Blue!

Story of the season, sloppy and uninspiring, but 3 points , qualification and minutes for injured players, so many positives.

But we need to improve considerably and do it very quickly.
