Nah I don't think so, this player has not been anything close to a model of consistency. He excelled in 2 competitions, and one of those is not much of a gauge of player quality anymore given the standard of teams that are now allowed to play in it circa 1998.

Why anyone would pay 35m for this guy after the van der Vaart transfer is totally and utterly beyond me.

Here's another thing: 35m would easily get us Modric and he is only 25 and we know for a fact can succeed in our league.

I'd agree with you in the sense that Sneijder wouldn't be a viable option for this club at all. The only feasible candidates (IMO) would be Pastore, Nasri and Mata (in descending order of preference). It's probably Nasri. I think sneijder is a great player for Inter and definitely worth more than Van der vaart (although he's good). Modric's strengths lie at deeper lying playmaking. I believe he wouldn't thrive in that sort of silva type free role to the extent that the others would.

Disagree, if we bettered United's wage offer I reckon he'd come here. They're obviously far from his dream club if he's reluctant to take a slight pay drop.

I also think a major factor of concern will be the question of just how many games will we get out of him:

Madrid 2008/09 - 22 league appearances
Inter 2009/10 - 26 league appearances
Inter 2010/11 - 25 league appearances

Seria a isn't exactly known for its blood and thunder style of play either. With this in mind how many games would biscuit bones Wes end up playing in the Premier League?

All the Wesley Sneijder love really grates me. He's totally over-rated and living off of a reputation based around performances at the 2010 World Cup and the 2009/10 Champions league.

- He's slow
- He failed badly in Spain
- He's 27 meaning he is angling for his last major contract (there will be hardly any sell-on value for his next club)

Spuds got Rafael van der Vaart for 8m at exactly the same age (27), Sneijder's barely worth anymore than that.

Spurs deal for Rafael was a bargain deal with Madrid who wanted to get rid. Clearly if Spurs wanted to sell VDV it will cost any suitor a good penny.<br /><br />-- Tue Aug 02, 2011 9:41 am --<br /><br />

Eto is great, but we really don't need another striker. We need players who can get then the ball and control possessions. Strikers are not that much more valuable, unless they get the ball in advantageous positions. Balotelli, Dzeko and Aguero accuracy rates are up there with the best of them. So really what we need are players who can get them the ball often so they can do what they do best. Not to mention I sincerely doubt we will lose Tevez before December. So at forward we are set,

The team is large and strong, and as some have stated we just might be set. But if we are iin need of anything, it is skilled players with a high Key pass rate. The best their is right now is Cesc, Nasri is good too, and so is Mata.

If you are looking at it statistically, what we need are guys with 1) High pass completion percentages, high key passes per game averages, and high dribble completion rates. Generally players with high numbers in all three categories are often stars or stars to be. Marvin Martins for me fits that bill. Has high numbers and isn't a bonafide star yet.

Once we have that we have a team and are ready to challenge at all levels. So Martins and Nasri or Martins and Mata. Would be my choice right now. Martins will be the backup to Silva, and Nasri/Mata the support starting creative teammate. I think both are needed.

How many times does this need pointing out, Mancini said (when Tevez was expected to stay) we have 3 strikers i want 4. We wont buy Eto'o, the only way we probably will strike a deal for him is a swap for Tevez, leaving us with Dzeko, BalotellI, Aguero and Eto'o.

He had his best season last season, and would be an excellent swap for Tevez. If Tevez stays we wont even go for Eto'o. If you believe we do or dont need any other strikers Mancini thinks differently, if Tevez goes.
