Why is valuing a player at that level disrespectful? What Villa are basically saying is that Milner is not for sale. But every player has their price so make us a SILLY offer. We don't have to/want to/need to sell him. It is not about being jealous at all.It is about clubs wanting to compete. Why should Villa or any other team give anyone fair value for a player. This is not Football Manager this is business.

Believe it or not Villa's ambition is top 4. So we will be competing. You were only 4 or 5 poins and 1 place ahead of us last season. Yes you have strengthened (i actually think you have a shot of top 2) but why should Villa sell their best player to a team that finished directly above them for anything less that a silly price?

And your comment about being held to ransom by teams lower was arrogant. It implied that when City come calling to any team they should accept whatever City think is fair price. Even if that club does not need the money.

I think across the board silly values should go, and yeah £30m is football manager silly pricing, you want a profit, then £18-20m max, but no 2 players, or you lose the cash for them.

I wish they would go too. But Villa are pretty much saying we don't want to sell him. So it is up to City to make a silly offer IF they want him. Nothing changes until City put an offer in front of Villa that they cannot refuse. Villa are not calling City to shop him around.
It would be the same if Chelsea or United came calling.

The problem is City DO want him

Got To agree just because its us going in for milner an extra 10 mil gets stuck on to the price personally i think milner would be a great signing potentially but hes not worth what villa are asking nowhere near 20 mil ops anymore than that then your living in dreamland.

Does he want City though? Fair enough, if Milner has no opinion about where he would prefer to play his football next season, then Villa can continue to play hard ball in the hope of pushing the price up or keeping the player. However, if Milner wants to come to City, then Villa need to be very careful that they don't end up with a very unhappy player on their hands.....

This is what I do know....
Milner has not and will not hand in a transfer request.
Milner would like to join City BUT if it did not happen, he would not rock the boat. He respects what MON has done too much.

Also we have experience in similar situations:

Barry had his best season after we refused to sell him to Liverpool. So much so you guys bought him the next summer.

Milner will be fine regardless.

Problem is that your argument about paying for potential actually pulls down his valuation in my opinion. He's a little beyond "potential" at age 24 and having played several seasons already in the league. Paying £20m for him would be a gift to Villa. I'm also not convinced that Mancini wants Milner, but rather our "football administrator" Brian Marwood due to his homegrown status.

Wow past it at 24!!!! i'm screwed.....

He is realising the potential now.

I think Mancin is a bit stronger than that....

He's not past it at 24 but should be entering the prime of his career (24-28), so we shouldn't be paying for potential at this point. I'm not convinced that we'd use Milner as a box-to-box midfielder as Toure will likely play that role.

As for Mancini being stronger than that, he has already stated that he knows that not all transfer dealings will be on his authority. At Inter, the political process of picking players was well beyond him and was one of his complaints after leaving there. He even stated that the owner of Inter tried to determine who should play where and when.

The club regularly refers to it's player acquisition strategy and makes no bones about the fact that players are selected by committee. It's also common knowledge on here that Brian Marwood is very influential in Man City's transfer business.

i wouldnt want milner AND £15m for ireland - stevie is a great player - like bellers who was our player of the season last year (not tevez)
Ireland should stay and get his head right - bellers too
