somebody, for the love of god, find me one quote, one clip, where he has slagged us off? If you're going to make such a big fuss about this appointment, if grown men, supposedly (!) sensible posters are going to call him a dickhead for the things he's said, then at least back it up with something.
People have already quoted his sneering observation that players coming to City are only doing it to jump aboard the gravy train.

I've been through this thread once without seeing anything more than hearsay....I'll look again for that quote.

But even leaving that aside, what is their in his previous roles that gives you confidence that he's the right coach for a team that aspires to be a force in world football?

I really don't feel like I need any evidence in that regard, everyone starts on a clean slate and gets a fair chance in my book... I can't see why I would want to do it any other way. I'm not a professional, the people who made this decision are.... so although I may have opinions I don't see why I would make a big deal out of disagreeing with a fait accompli, the only sensible choice seems to be to wait and see, rather than risk making a fool out of myself... for what end?

His record in management is poor, I agree... but it seems fairly obvious that management demands different qualities than coaching. The specifics of his role at the club are not apparent to any of us, so, on both sides of the equation, you haven't really demonstrated that we're asking him to do anything he has failed at in the past. ditto Lombardo.

assembling a team in the real world isn't about simply assembling those with the most glittering CV's... you find the right balance of personalities and strengths. as others have said maybe what's missing is someone who can clearly communicate ideas in detail. if that's what you're looking for, I wouldn't write somebody off because they were found to be out of their depth as a club manager.

Lot of words about a position that basically pans out to being able to translate from Italian to English in football terms.

The fact that our first team coach doesn´t speak English was a problem that had to be adressed.
And no..a guy like Zola would never have taken a job like that.

i'm not gonna slate platt as he may be a fantastic coach i don't know as may lombardo but these 2 appointments smacks of jobs for the boys to me. why attempt to put together a world class side and have them coached by relative amateurs coaching wise?.......makes no sense to me surely we should be attempting to bring in world class coaching staff whomever that may be.

That's a very well constructed response but there's still some flaws in it. You are right that management and coaching require different qualities. A coach has to be able to translate a manager's strategic & tactical requirements into a training programme that enables the team to meet those requirements during a season.

Malcolm Allison was the best example of that; his qualities as a coach were beyond doubt plus he was also a master psychologist and motivator. Joe Mercer was the sounding board for both Malcolm and the players as well as the politician in the boardroom. Mal's problem was he could never be the latter.

Brian Kidd is another good example of a very good coach who didn't quite have the depth to make the leap into management. I had an interesting conversation about Pearce with a former senior figure at City who made the same point (but was more scathing about SP's lack of managerial qualities).

However, the problem with Pratt & Lombardo is that neither has actually been a pure coach as far as I can see so have no pedigree. Both excellent players but we all know that's no guarantee of success as a coach. The only qualification they seem to have is that they are old playing mates of Mancini's and that doesn't reflect well on him.

And as someone who has constantly made snide remarks about the owners plans and the motivation of the players playing for us, I do wonder how Pratt is going to relate to those self-same players.

Well I'm sure he's also doing his bit for society; giving a chance to a bloke who's not had a proper job for 6 years & has clearly let himself go.

Call me stupid but i've never been coached by either, so i wouldnt know if they are good coaches, platt will help with the communication between bobbi and the players. If bobbi feels at ease with platt in the ranks so be it.
