Otamendi

It would seem Valencia are actually financially very sound indeed, their owner is a very wealthy individual. The issues they had, and the reasons they were reluctant to hand over the Negredo money, were down to FFP considerations. They'd spent a fair amount and hadn't recouped a great deal, so needed to address that imbalance before the end of the next accounting period.

I did wonder about this. Valencia were bought by a Singaporean billionaire last year, I believe, and are very sound indeed if we limit our attention to real money in the real world, but if we have to inhabit Platinin's dreamworld the club has violated the first sacred principle and invested rather than going bust quietly. They're even in the CL this season and - how on earth did this happen - must fight to the death with those other upstarts, Monaco tonight. It was clear that City weren't going to let Mangala go on loan and Jason may go out on loan elsewhere - is this a consequence of Bruno's loan last year when he got no pitch time at all at Valencia? Other tweets - from the often reliable Stuart Brennan? - claim the deal for Otamendi has nothing to do with the Negredo deal.

Someone, quick.

Apparently they are just waiting for United's newest signing to complete his medical before Otamendi can start his.

Thanks Matty, sorry I was not aware of that.

So not a bank problem with VFC having plenty of money but unable to use it because of FFP, frustrating and unfair as discussed at length on FFP thread.
How lucky we are to have an owner who has invested with an excellent business plan that Uefa had not realised could successfully be transferred to what they thought was their exclusive football sector.

This purchase by City may currently not make football sense for some but is still a financially sound investment replacing the hire purchase agreement that sold Negredo to Valencia.
