Not that it is relevant, but purely out of interest, what did happen to argentine players during the Falklands war. Presume there weren't actually too many playing here but Ardilles is one that springs to mind. Did he carry on playing but just kop a bit from the terraces?

Not seen enough of Otamendi to pass judgement on him, but letting Mangala go after one season as some seem to be suggesting might happen seems a bit drastic. I think he will develop into one of the bet centre backs around within the next 12-18 months.

Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi was a no-show for the club’s training on Sunday morning, as it appears that his desired exit from Mestalla is very close.



On Thursday, Otamendi informed manager Nuno Espirito Santo that he did not wish to participate in the team’s training session for fear that he would be injured and be forced to remain at the club past the summer transfer deadline.

Otamendi personally asked Nuno not to play him in the game against reserve side Mestalla as he is preparing to leave the club and does not want an injury to jeopardize the potential move and salary increase.

“Mister, there’s a lot of money on the line, please don’t play me.”

Valencia were facing Mestalla as their final pre-season match before facing Monaco in their Champions League play-off this coming Wednesday, but Otamendi chose not to risk it.

Otamendi and his agent have made not secrets about his future plans and with Manchester United and Manchester City expressing interest, Valencia have chosen to fight fire with fire and stick to the defender’s €50 million asking price.

However, Otamendi has now simply not appeared at the club’s Sunday training session and it appears that the Argentine has finally gotten his wish.

Otamendia made 38 appearances, scoring six goals and being named to La Liga’s starting Xi for the 2015 season.

The two Spurs lads were treated as normal in the main by supporters but that didn`t mean they escaped a bit of abuse from some numpties.From a City (fans) perspective they never received much acrimony as both were incredible players.

He did mate but on his return he never had too much shit thrown at him and I was certainly present at all City home games to witness that.As I said he got abuse but nothing to the extent that they both could have received :
